WHAT are these guys doing?

Unfortunately for them, its not little harmless stuff either.

Its some pretty major safety components. These last few years no doubt, will have hurt their reputation.

The NHTSA apparently requested that Toyota include these additional vehicles in the "floor mat" recall from 2009. Toyota did, and now NHTSA has closed the investigation. Now everybody can move on from here.

This isn't a dead horse, this is a new recall today.

Whoopeedoo... and Ford just recalled 144,000 for inadvertent deploying airbags on their F150s from 2005-2006 model years.

Recalls are all over the place for every company. At least they are happening and not being swept under the rug like they used to.

As a Toyota owner who's Tacoma has been recalled, it is not the fault of the mats, it is the fault of the people who do not rehook their mats properly after removing for cleaning and vacuuming. If properly reinstalled on the hooks, there is about 2.5" of clearance between the mats and the bottom of the gas pedal. I so distrust the dealer I purchased my truck from (Hendrick organization) that is is not going to be fixed by them. I may take it to another dealer if my mats become curled and present a problem. All was OK a couple weeks ago when I removed and reinstalled after vacumming.

Thank you. On EVERY Toyota that's been recalled for floor mat issues, if the mats are properly secured, there is no risk of pedal entrapment. Since the beginning, I think the "floor mat" recall is a farse. The sticking pedals...now that was a legitimate issue in my opinion. But the "floor mat" recall has been an "operator error" issue since jump street.

Can they recall the drivers? Maybe work with the state DMVs to revoke their driver's licenses until they come in for the mandatory floor-mat training?

If Toyota keeps recalling them, it's not beating a dead horse.

A 're-animated' from the dead, 'pet cemetery' horse??

(YES, let's just let this die in peace already!)

I think its the whole, lets redesign every thing every 4 years. By the time they get the kinks worked out, there they go with a total redesign.

By any chance, is this accelerator problem drive-by-wire?

Floor mats. This recall has nothing to do with electronic throttle control. There is no evidence that any of Toyota's electronic throttle control systems are faulty.

If people would just install the floor mats properly, and check them occasionally, the floor mats wouldn't be a concern.

lets face it, most people are lazy.

Most people are lazy, or most people who drive Toyota models which are suffering from floor-mat induced acceleration are lazy?

I, personally, have never had a floor-mat problem on any car I've ever owned, hooks or not.

Then again, I've never confused the "go" and "stop" pedals either...and I know that if the engine starts racing for some reason, all that is required is to put the gear selector in "NEUTRAL", pull off the road, and shut the engine off.
