Is there a acceptable alternative to the 'Over-priced' Toyota Pink WITHOUT a complete system drain and flush?

Thanks in advance for knowledgeable replys Gents.

Agreed, Zerex asian. It probably doesn't cost much less than the Toy Pink, though. IIRC it was about 20 for a gallon of 50/50 premix.

Thank you Gentleman,

Besides NAPA, is it also available from Carquest?

I ask because I'am less then six miles from their Southeast Distribution Warehouse in NC?

They might not have it at stores, but I think you could make a request for it and get it.

Not sure if I could recommend switching without a flush. However, if you are willing to take the chance, then these are also made my CCI, who makes the Toyota Super Long Life. They likely are similar and compatible, but are dyed

- Nissan coolant (not sure what they call it)
- Honda coolant (again not sure what it's called)
- Subaru super blue
- Mazda FL-22

but, like the Toyota SLL, they are all premixed, and probably priced similarly. So no advantage to switching there.

However, also made by them and available in concentrate are:

- Ford Specialty Green (said to be identical to FL-22)
- Golden Cruiser (may be concentrated, but no idea where you would even find this stuff)

I'm not sure you'll see a big price difference with the Ford Specialty Green. I am getting ready to do a drain and fill myself, and inquired about pricing, in case I was short (thought I was going to do it when time was tight, and a Ford dealer is only a couple of minutes away, but never did it in the end). Concentrate gallon jug about $38. Toyota SLL diluted gallon jug goes for around $24. Slight price difference, but not huge.

Based on this, simplest and best to stick to OE.

I also saw Beck Arnley 'pink' (SLL for Toyota's) last week at NAPA while picking up some of their synthetic oil on sale.
The price wasn't marked but when I asked the counter guy said "About $15" for the gallon of premix 50/50.

OT: I hate it when stores don't put the price on the item and make you ask...

I would imagine that BA is even closer to the OE than Zerex Asian.

They had it in stock the last time I was there.

The price is not too outrageous - it is about $18/gal premixed if you know the right parts guy. The stuff only needs replacement at 100k (initially), then 50k thereafter. I believe Beck/Arnley makes an alternative, but it costs just as much as the real stuff.

Of course, I choose to replace mine more frequently, but it is definitely not needed.

Do you guys think it would be alright to add some Lubegard Kool it Supreme Coolant Treatment with the intention on getting 25% longer intervals and adding protection and cooling properties?....

http://www.lubegard.com/~/C-201/Kool-It+Supreme+Coolant+Treatment

Results from 7,000 hour
coolant test

A) Straight water with antifreeze (50/50)
B) Straight water with antifreeze (50/50) and KOOL-IT®

Note the separation of the water and antifreeze in bottle A. This shows the contamination formed from rust and silicates.

Zerex Asian is a LLC, same as Totota Red LLC. Toyota Pink is a SLLC that uses Sebacic for which there is no aftermarket equivalent. However Zerex Asian LLC and Toyota Red LLC are compatible with Toyota Pink SLLC. But your blending a LLC with a SLLC so you must adhere to the shorter LLC service intervals. Toyota Red LLC is sold as concentrate. Once its mixed 50/50 with distilled you end up with 2 gallons lowering the cost to approx $14 a gallon. Same price as Zerex Asian premix.

I asked about the antifreeze when I had the 5 yr checkup at my Toyota dealer. They said it looked fine and that it is good up to 12 yrs. When I asked my brother-in-law about this topic (owns his own shop), he said he never goes more than 5 yrs on the same antifreeze. My Corolla is 8 yrs/ 85k miles old and I'm wondering if I should change it. Is there anyway to tell when the coolant is going bad or when to change it?
