Can the Toyota/Lexus P/N 90915-20004 oil filter, used on the Tundra V8, be used on the 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 Xtra Cab 2.7L 4 cylinder engine?

The standard OEM filter for the 2.7L is the 08922-02011.

Looking at other brand of oil filters, the Tundra V8 uses the same oil filter as the Tacoma. Where as, Toyota has different ones.

Thx

08922-02011 is also used on V6 engines and the following filters can be used: 90915-YZZB9 or 90915-20003 with 90915-20003 being the best filter to buy.
Filtering media and filter design is identical for -20003 and -20004 filters, the only difference is that -20004 is taller.
I've heard about many V6 owners using 90915-20004 on their cars because of increased size (more filtering media) with perfect fit so I don't see why it wouldn't work on your 4 cylinder, it should have the same thread.

The Toyota/Lexus P/N 90915-20004 oil filter is the one that I would like to use, but can't seem to find anyone who has either used it/or is using it on their Tacoma.

I'd like to know for sure if there are any problems w/it. Quality wise, it looks to be the best.

My local Toyota dealer doesn't know if it can or can't be used either.

Why do you think there would be a problem if the threads are the same? I don't think the difference in oil pressure will be significant and this is the only difference I can think of.
If you're still worried then use 90915-20003, it's the same construction as 90915-20004, just slightly smaller, it'll be better for your piece of mind

I have since found out that the 90915-20003 comes from the factory on the Tacoma 2.7L I4.

I also talked w/the dealer that I purchased my Tacoma from and found out that they only keep one filter size in stock, to keep inventory low, to cover most of the models, and that is the 90915-YZZB5, which is the replacement for the 90915-20004. They said that there haven't been any problems w/it.

So I'll go for the 90915-20004.

Thx.

I was just looking through my 2003 Napa filters master catalog. All the Tundra, tacoma, 4runner oil filters are the same one. From the 4.7L-2.4L They all call for a 1348. I have a 98 tacoma 2.7L and I run a 1516. Same threads, width, bypass pressure, but its twice as tall. I know this dosen't help with toyota part numbers, but it shows one or the other shouldn't matter.

Mounted the Toyota/Lexus 90915-20004 oil filter today on my Tacoma 2.7L I4 engine, as well as changed over to synthetic, 5W-30 Mobil 1.

The -20004 went on w/o any problms or obstructions. I also checked an Amsoil SDF34, the long version of the SDF57, which I had sitting around, and it too fit w/o any problems or obstructions.

I then drove 250 miles, w/o any problems. I don't know if it is me or not, but that engine certainly seems to run a lot smoother w/the M1 in it.

I switched to 90915-20004 about a month ago on a Camry V6. The pressue came up real fast even after sitting for over a week and the engine runs very smooth. Interesting, I was already using Mobil1, so the smooth running was a nice bonus. Of course, it could just be a placebo for me. I was using Pureone.

BTW,I did the same analyis that Fishwater did by looking at the aftermarket oil filter catalogs. They seem to just ignore Toytoa different filters. Also, the local Lexus dealer puts the filter on ES300s V6s for folks that ask per servies guys at the local Lexus dealer.
