Since Fram and SuperTech oil filters will soon be obsolete. Is there any cons using the OE filters? They are cheap (under $5), the quality seems to be consistent, however, I saw a few posts showing it had failed and went into bypass mode.

I've also read OE filters are nothing special and the filtration efficiency is not stellar. But if one just does 5K OCI, does it really makes a material difference?

If one wants cheap, peace of mind, don't need to search around for the best budget oil filter, would OE be the way to go?

The current state of Toyota OE filters has been they are in decline. Some examples are in recent threads.

I have an O'Reilly's in town, so next oil changes I do I'm using the Microgard Select. Good filter efficiency down to 20 or 25 microns and cheaper than other name brands.
Those are on the premium side going for $10+. I am looking for a budget filter. I've been using Supertech filters.

I've used a lotta Toyota/Honda filters, as well as Frams, etc. I now use premium Guard and swap them every other 5K service.
MityVac makes things easy...

You might check your local Toyota dealer mine sells the can filters for $6.50 each or if you buy 2 or more they sell them for $4.50 each been like that for many years. I use a fair amount of toyota oem fllters since the 1990s. Never had an issue with toyota oem filters.

I recently got them for under $5/pc. Wait until they have a sale for 25%, it will become even less.

Advance Auto Parts Carquest red label (their standard filter) is their budget filter for $4.99. Better efficiency (95% @ 20u per AAP website) than the Toyota OEM. Buy $35 or more in an on-line order and get 15% off the whole order.

These filters are much efficient?

I maintain a large fleet too many to list. Basically, any Toyota/Lexus vehicle.
These are made by Premium Guard like the Carquest Red. High quality 5k filter.

It's possible RA sells counterfeit filters, unlikely thou. I'd think Alibaba sells counterfeits.
Even if they are made in China the filters appear to be of great build.

If your buying in volume just buy a bunch from Rock Auto to amortize shipping.

For Can's the "varios manufacture" are usually a PGI XL Filter. I got Proto last order. Hengst filters are well constructed also.

I am not knowledgeable on cartridge but I have never seen a bad Hengst?
