Hello
The U.S. Camry owners manual calls for 0w8 oil, with 0w16 ok if 8 is not available.
The Australian manual for the same car allows for up to 10w30.
I assume the difference is the CAFE standards.
Is there any reason that the higher oil cannot be used n US cars?
The engine model number is the same.
Link to the AU manual below
Thanks

Australia still has Kmart. We don't :ROFLMAO:

You can use any 0w8, 0w16, 0w20, or even 0/5w30 with no problem :)

Did you find 10w30 on clearance or something? :D

Also, apparently Australia requires premium (95 RON/91 US), while kiwis can use regular (91 RON/87 US) :sneaky: (see Toyota page 403, which is 380 in the pdf search bar), the page before the oil chart.

Much of Australia is hotter than most of the US. Thicker oil in hotter climates and thinner oil in cold climates is common.

Toyotas usually aren't picky on oil, so buy whatever is on sale.

When I see “manual” in the title on a car forum, I think it’s a thread about transmissions.

This is about “owner’s manual” or “oil specification in Australia”.

They're the exact same engine. If the au model had "wider tolerances" then it wouldn't spec the lower grades only the higher grades. But it specifying 8 to 30 means the engines are identical.

The baloney conspiracy about how the US toyotas have different electric oil pump software which people call the "calibration" so it only works with the specified grade and the toyotas outside of the US having more software that lets them work with multiple grades is nothing short of nonsense.

Not only that it must be geographically controlled.
