Both the US and Australian Toyota motor companies advertise their Toyota genuine motor oil is "specially formulated with additives for toyota engines".

I read this as [censored], but could there be something in it that a special formulation for toyota engines would help? anti wear maybe?

Then again the manual recommends ANY ILSAC engine oil is OK so why would toyota have special formulations?

Simple (and obvious) answer is that they are trying to sell you THEIR oil. They do not have a magic formula, and it is no better for Toyota engines than many other oils.

The toyota 0w-20 is indeed a special oil. Almost 1000ppm moly and the highest VI of anything on the market Ive seen. Does this make it "better" Dont know. I Would agree The 5w-30 is prolly not special.

Toyota genuine motor oil is very good for Toyota engines, but don't use it in Honda engines it would seize the engines as soon as you turn the key.

If not for the most excellent VOA Inormaly agree and do not use anything with out a brand name on it of who manufactured it! Their is nothing I hate more then when OEM do not put the name of the manufacture on the product we all know that GM,Toyota,BMW etc.... do not make their own chemicals so why pretend that they do. I would be more inclined to use OEM fluids if I knew who made the product for them.THis is assuming the price is competitive and not insanely high!!

I think the regular dino Toyota oil is just Exxon Superflo. I believe Superflo does have a higher moly content than some other oils on the market, and it's a good product, but i'm not sure it's "better" than quaker state, pennzoil, castrol, etc...

If this is true, I wonder why Toyota doesn't make "Toyota genuine gas". With Toyota oil and gas, the engines will last forever.
