Toyota ATF WS Lack of Availability

Placed an order for Toyota ATF WS from Amazon. Instead of getting a 'your order has shipped' email, I received an email cancelling my order due to lack of availability. Ordered the quarts just in case things went wonky. Placed an order with Walmart and will receive it tomorrow. So it goes.

I've had two complete flushes (from a dealer) in the Camry with BG, as they didn't use WS, and have been happy with that. I didn't DIY that as it seemed rather involved and a scan tool was suggested. I believe genuine WS is rather tough to get reliably, but have to imagine that the vast majority of WS-specced cars are either running factory-fill WS or an aftermarket fluid (which has to be leagues better than 200k mile WS).

Certainly model dependent, however I recently changed the ATF in the boss's 2022 RX350. Was able to have the vehicle tell me the ATF temp was correct from the front dash by jumping 2 pins on the OBD-II port with a paper clip.

I ordered some WS online from the Toyota dealer and got 5 quarts with crush washers for $73 total. Considering it’s only a once in an every few years purchase 1) I’m not stressing the cost and 2) I saw the need coming a mile away and prepared in advance.

Not a lot of emergency transmission fluid services in my life.

HPL GREEN ATF is a suitable (and superior) fluid compared to WS. It's readily available. I'd have ZERO qualms about running whatever red/blue Amsoil ATF they recommend as WS replacement. Maybe they're doing you a favor by not being available? Lots of good options already listed too.

Was HPL Green ATF designed with Toyota WS as the baseline design target? Just curious.
I've also often wondered what baseline spec AMSOIL was built upon.

great questions for their technical teams to get back to you on. If I had to guess, HPL will directly address your concern and Amsoil will leave you scratching your head. LMK if these guesses are correct.

I’ve used both the AMSOIL and the HPL Green in my Tundra that specifies WS.

The transmission shifts great with both. As a data point, the original WS came out dirty at 25,000 total miles, but it was factory fill, and the AMSOIL came out spotless with 50,000 miles on it.

Now, I know the color and clarity of a fluid are not indicators of performance, but, I felt bad dumping the AMSOIL when it came out so clean and clear.
