Former coworker had one. It was great but I am sure Toyota lost a lot of money on each one they sold. Not sure if anyone remembers the 2nd Gen RAV4 EV…had a Tesla powertrain/battery tech, it hauled @ss

Its easy to be up when you now offer multiple EV models that are actually now available on lots and those buyers have to come from somewhere. Almost every EV manufacturer except Tesla is up right now. I wonder why that is(beyond the public reasons)?GM USA EV sales up 48% in 2025
Tesla USA sales down 25% in 2025
Certainly understandable that EV sales would further fall into the toilet once USA taxpayers stopped giving people free money to buy them.

Tesla can only go down as the market widens and as long as other brands that didn't make them before sell a few they'll go up. There's literally no other possible outcome. It’s because Tesla is losing market share and General Motors is gaining market. All at a time that all electric vehicle manufacturers are under pressure.
Bottom line new models will take sales from established models and manufacturers
Tesla used to be the only game in town, only natural as new models and manufacturers come into the market. Sales will be handed over to those companies.
I think Tesla was #1 again in Q1.
Tesla reclaimed its position as the world's best-selling EV company in Q1 2026, delivering 358,023 BEVs and surpassing Chinese rival BYD, which sold 310,389 units. Tesla's sales grew by 6.5% year-over-year, driven by the Model 3 and Y, while BYD's pure EV sales saw a 25.5% decline in the same period.
Interestingly, also in Q1 the refreshed Toyoto bZ SUV (odd name; I can never remember it) was the top-selling non-Tesla EV in the U.S. with 10,029 units sold, surging 79% and outpacing Ford's total EV lineup. Rivian also had a strong quarter, delivering 10,365 EVs and surpassing Ford, Kia, and Toyota.
Globally, Tesla maintained dominance with the Model Y/3. Tesla remains the undisputed U.S. EV sales leader by a massive margin. General Motors, the second-best-selling EV maker in the country, delivered 25,900 electric vehicles in Q1, less than one-tenth of Tesla's total.
Tesla dominates U.S. EV market Q1 2026.
Now, for the bottom line... Buy whatever EV you want a year or so old. They take a nose dive.
Me too. I've owned 4 Corvettes, so my education is bought and paid for. What does the hybrid run? Make mine the E-Ray!I love the Corvette Hybrid.![]()
Kudos to GM for their EV efforts, someday they might even generate a profit. But profit is impossible at these small sales levels. As a big time GM fan boy I always get so excited to see GM grow to #2 in EV sales in the US because that’s pretty darn good! Then I look at the actual number of units sold vs Tesla and I laugh.
Either way both have a compelling product and I think either one would make someone very happy.
First quarter it overall EV sales down 41% according to that link you posted.I think Tesla was #1 again in Q1.

Tesla and BYD dominate WW and Tesla dominates in the US. That's the numbers. Beyond that, only Tesla, BYD and maybe BMW make a profit on their EV business units. Other companies bouy their bottom line with other products.First quarter it overall EV sales down 41% according to that link you posted.
Tesla continues to lose market share and its first quarter 2026 numbers were not great, of course which still equals the worst first quarter since 2022 now in 2026 . They also missed Wall Street projections.

Really no one is killing it just yet but with so many new EV‘s out on the market it is going to be interesting. Agree that this market is so soft. Don’t buy EV because of you might think will be resale market value
You brought out some good points, the part I quoted really sticks out to me. Lets not forget what you guys are paying for gas in CA. That is a big part of the reason for their popularity in CA, probably bigger than most people want to believe. There is this general anti-EV sentiment that dominates so much of America (and much of BITOG). California is the biggest car market in the US and we love our EVs. There's a reason for it.
No doubt. Wifey is driving the Model 3 to work these days. I can absolutely tell you the recent cost increase, on top of the already high prices, is making some people choose between gas and other necessities. I try and help where I can; it's only right. You brought out some good points, the part I quoted really sticks out to me. Lets not forget what you guys are paying for gas in CA. Did GM buy Chinese brands or something? I don't see the usual suspect GM brands selling EVs anywhere that I can search. I've been trying to find other models sold outside the US through the GM umbrella. That’s not accurate.
You’re comparing Tesla’s GLOBAL deliveries to GM’s USA-ONLY deliveries.
Good to know. Lemme know if you can get the GM WW numbers. I am always happy to be corrected if I am misinformed or wrong. That’s not accurate.

This was the easiest way to get AWD, IMO, as opposed to integrating a mechanical drivetrain for the front wheels. It's too heavy with the battery for what it's supposed to be, IMO. We need to stop normalizing 4200 pound sports cars.I love the Corvette Hybrid.![]()
