I wouldn't go that far. Total makes great oil and has for years. Not necessarily better or worse than any other major brands, but it is quality stuff.

It's still an unknown entity on here, with few (if any) UOAs posted, and I can't recall a single person mentioning that it's the oil they run in their car.

I used it at least three or four times in my previous car, I don't recall the exact one but it was Quartz 0w40 502 VW spec. I never did an analysis but I did 6-7k (miles) OCI, owned the car for eight years, my coworker still drives it daily, and it still runs great, maybe that means something or maybe it doesn't

Their oils have actual approvals and specs however. A UOA on here would not show if one of their oils is better than a competitor's with the same spec.

yeah I mean it's kind of like saying Peugeot or Citroen aren't known here, but we know they are fine cars.

Total is very far from being 'unknown'; it's one of the world's biggest oil companies that makes oils with almost every approval.

In case this was missed.

Details on these products can be found here:

And they provide a nice detailed data sheet:

Noack looks quite good for the price.

They are "known" for doing business certain ways …
and after huge FCPA fines I'd expect them to tread lightly in the USA

I haven't looked for ages. Do they actually have it at CT in 4.73L on an ongoing basis or just for specials? If it's good riddance to 4.4L jugs, I'll be clicking my heels.

They've been clearing out the 4.4L jugs for a while now, looks like it'll be 4.73 or 5 L jugs for everything from now on.

I haven't seen Castrol in the 4.4L jugs in a while, just the 5L ones

I won't miss that, either. I guess that shows you how little time I've spent in the oil aisles of CT, WM, or Partsource lately. The last oil purchase I "assisted in" was telephone support for my god daughter picking up the appropriate lube for her Benz when she was at Walmart, getting her to the M1 0w-40.
