TOTAL PRO-TEC 10W40 @ 220H - Valmet 365 Gearbox

Here is the UOA of the gearbox oil of a Valmet 365 tractor after 220H and 4 years. Oil is TOTAL MULTIAGRI PRO-TEC 10W40 STOU (multipurpose oil)

All seem OK, except viscosity. Problem with shear and a not so strong oil ? OCI is 1000 H, so 220 H is not much..

Not bad after 220 Hours and TBN holding well.

If your system has submerged disc brakes and clutches, I am not surprised at the shearing.

Is this a pressurized system? If so change filter every 50-100 hours.

I am surprised they are using Barium. This is a heavy metal that has been phased out in most lubricants.

Yes it is a pressurized system, but the manual tell to change the filter only every 500 h, and oil, every 1000 h.

I would at least halve the filter change interval.

Ok thanks, I will do. Anyway, I will change oil and filter next year after 5 years, so should be at 300h.

Btw, do you think a UTTO oil would be stronger than a STOU oil for a gearbox ?
