I owned a Toro221QRE (two cycle single stage) and an 11 h.p. 29" two stage large frame Simplicity.
In areas of lots of snow, if a person can only have one machine, a healthy two stage snow blower is the way to go. However, I have to admit that over the years, the Toro was used 90% of the time and it was a very impressive snow mover. Despite it's capabilities, in the event of fairly common blizzards that dump large amounts of snow, the Toro couldn't chew it's way though 3' of drifted snow just to get out of the garage. It was simply overwhelmed. That's when the Simplicity would earn it's keep.
The bottom line is that without the big two stage machine, the driveway would not be cleared unless a contractor was called to dig us out and that can take days just to get them there.
As previously stated, it's nice to have the right tool(s) for the job.
