torco

I've used Torco SR-5 and 5R in my 97 M3, stock engine and my racing 95 and 99 Miatas. Miatas have up to 162 peak HP. I can say I consistently had higher Dynojet hp, about 2-4%, pretty cheap way to gain HP. Hard to quantify, but it seemed like the engine also ran a bit cooler. I've also used the gearbox oils. Ive won 10 regional championships.

I was in Napa yesterday and noticed I’ve walked by torco cases setting there for at least a year. I always assumed it was a lower tiered oil. Silly me. It’s the sr1 but there was no price. I’m at the stage in life that I’ll buy the good stuff, even if I don’t need it.

Yes, this comes back to the fact that oils are fully formulated products, and this is a balancing act in order to meet the requirements of different test protocols that may respond favourably to completely opposed chemistries. This again highlights the risk of "dosing" a finished lubricant with some 3rd party additive and concluding that you've made the product better, or that mixing two oils like TGMO and M1 0W-40 yields a superior end product than a fully formulated one.
Oh, you chose those two particular oils...

I've never seen a VOA or UOA of Torco, but like I said a while back, everything about them appears legit. They seem very top tier.

is there any current experiences with Torco engine oil?, a friend of mine is considering using this in his car ,the specs look good on their web site,
I remember decades ago in the 1980s Consumer Reports tested oils for cars. Torco performed poorly, but that was decades ago. So that info might not be relevant anymore. I don't know about Torco for cars, but I like to avoid rolling the dice on unusual brands.

It'll be interesting to see if anyone knows more specifics about Torco for cars.

I used Torco conventional motorcycle oil in a Honda 350 back in the late 1980s. The cam shaft lobes wore out in less than 10K miles, but I don't know if that was the oils fault. It might have been unrelated. I never let it get low on oil and I changed it on time. I also remember that Torco was very expensive.

I have not used Torco in a car. So I can't comment on that, except to ask why? There's lots of lower cost safe bets in name brand oils, as well as autostore housebrands and Supertech and Amazon housebrand oil. Why roll the dice on Torco? Especially if it's expensive.

Torco is a small batch blender that uses high quality ingredients. Very transparent on formulas not unlike HPL. Give them a call. They are very well known in the motorsports world.
Perhaps they should also put a bit more high quality ingredients into their PDS and not list mutually incompatible recommendations.

Today I got some Torco SR-1 5W-30 so I can test its volatility and resistance to forming high temperature deposits. I will make a new thread with results when I have them. Only cost me $11/qt plus tax at a local racing shop.

I'll be checking out the results 👍

It’s on their website. My 21 states ilsac gf5. I’m sure the newest batch is gf6. Either way it’s going in my car.

Right. But considering the things they make up already such as a dexos license and mutually incompatible "approvals" I'm not sure I would be inclined to believe that.

But it's good you do.
