My friend has a kia that I take care of. Shes doing extended drains and drives 140 miles a day. All highway. Current fill is PP with a fram ultra. Previous fill was PP drained at 8k. Fill before that was PU drained at 10k. Current mileage is 167k

Im wanting to push this drain out to 10-12k. It will probably use 1 1/2 qts. Do you think it would be better to top off with PU or PP?

No uoa. She dont wanna pay for it and im not going to either. I can tell you the ngine is cleaner now than it ever was and I have been maintaining it since 80k

How are you proclaiming "cleaner"??

I hope not just looking down the oil fill cap?

I would not go over 7500 unless you do at least one UOA at 7500.

You should easily get 12,500 OCI....with a combination of an 'ULTRA' filter an M-1 EP or PU. This combination would get the maximum out of both the filter and oil....with room to spare.

I'd think that 8K on either Plat or Ultra in a cooking engine run on the highway would be pretty safe, even without a UOA.
Also, the adds would likely make 10K pretty safe in this engine with the use it's getting.
The two oils have very similar add packs.
PU just has more.
PP would be a good add oil at a little lower cost.

Dude I have had this car apart many times. After its first go to 10k with PU the oil filter mount went from varnished to polished aluminium.....tell ya what. This summer I will post pics when I change the vc gasket. Remember what Pennzoil said about extended drains. Its not enough to just do a uoa, you have to do regular engine inspections.

Sorry if I seem a little snappy but I kinda take offence to your tone and the "CLEANER" thing. Its as if you just assume im an idiot

Btw since this car was switched to long drains about 30k ago oil consumption has dropped by 50%. This engine needed synthetic

Doing a single UOA at 10K would be money well spent, BUT all highway driving is incredibly easy on the oil in comparison with stop go inner city use. If 7500 miles is the normal OCI, I would not be surprised if 15K was OK for highway use, assuming a good oil and filter was used.

I will tell ya one thing...if it gets a uoa it will be because I payed for it. And if I pay for it, I want to see a 12k run on PP!!!!

I do have a blotter test of the oil that waseft in the filter I just cut up at 8k with PP if anyone wants to see it.....

I know its not a uoa but you can tell that the dispersants aren't over loaded and still performing properly.. its all I got and it was free.
