Toll road text scam warning

I guess this is a new thing, I've received two so far and it's an obvious scam but just incase anyone is unsure here's a notice! They can't even spell FasTrak right!

This isn't news by any means; been going on for a while now, especially in large metro areas with toll road, toll lanes, etc.


I recently traveled from AZ to CA. I got several of these "toll alerts" on my way back. They are scams, pure and simple.

Any legit tolling entity will contact you via your vehicle registered address; that's the ONLY way they would know your car traveled on the toll road/lane. Photo evidence is required as "proof" of travel, date/time, etc.

All these scammers are doing is getting your cell number from a ping source (legit or not) along the roadway, and then phishing to see who's stupid enough to bite on the bait.

Yeah I get those often. Also your debit card is compromised from banks I don’t even use lol

I got that text last week, I added to my growing list of blocked numbers.

there is also the "you missed jury duty and must pay a fine immediately or else the sheriff is on his way to arrest you" scam. My son is on grand jury duty and they emphasized this scam to all the jurors.

especially in large metro areas with toll road, toll lanes, etc.

They send them to random phone numbers and has nothing to do with where people live. They just count on 1 out of 100 people falling for it and if so, it's a success to them. I've gotten these twice in the past year and the last toll road I drove on was in FL 6-7 years ago so it took me about 1-1/2 seconds to "Delete and report junk" it.

I got one last month. I checked my ipass account anyways just to make sure and I did have an unpaid toll, hah.

I got one the other day. They spelled "your" as "ur"

I told my wife if these people weren't so dumb and lazy their scams would stand a better chance, but I'm also glad they're this dumb and lazy

My dad asks me to look at a lot of these texts because he has a hard time figuring out the difference between fake and real. It doesn't necessarily help that some legitimate services/retailers use texts to provide updates. But my dad has a hard time distinguishing. He's a "don't bore me with the details" kind of guy until the details are important.

I've received a bunch of those, although I'm only registered with Bay Area FasTrak and they don't use texts.

I get tons of em.. probably 10 a day various types.. luckily about 9 out of 10 are auto blocked.

Fortunately the sheriff will accept payment in the form of Apple gift cards.
