Today, last production day for the Ford Crown Vic

Made about 15 mins from my house.
Was listening to this on the radio on the way to work this morning. Ford employees calling in to the radio station and the radio station giving best wishes etc. Really quite sad. Some people are going to other Ford plants though apparently so all is not lost.

Sad about the car as well though, which is definitely now completely done.

However, the last one that rolled off the assembly line will be closer to you, than it will be to us in the U.S.

Ford stated that a white one, the last one off of the assembly line, will be shipped to Saudi Arabia.

I'm somewhat surprised that Ford didn't keep the last one.

Ain't that the truth.

It will be interesting to see what the bulk of the police agencies will buy next..Down by me I only see a sprinkling of Chargers and Impalas..Alot of agencies who had some extra money in the budget [not many] bought the last of the CVPI's.

It's a sad day in America. Crown Victoria is one of my favorite American cars. If I were rich, I'd buy the very last one for twice the amount they're selling it for.

I don't know what all the old people around here will do for a car now! I know that's not original, but it's true.

The platform has been constantly improved upon since 1979. And now it gets the axe.

Maybe an even sadder day in Canada, where it was built. That's a lot of lost jobs.

Really more upset they never gave it a facelift and a repower at some point. The excuse seemed to have been that they wanted to make sure the other engines were reliable before putting them in the Panther for police use. Load of garbage if you ask me. The Modular 4.6 (a clean slate design) debut in the 1991 LTC and moved to the rest of the Panther line up in 1992. If the R&D is done properly it shouldnt be a problem.

Sad day indeed. Makes me think of Wixom Assembly and the fate it met back in 2007, when they moved the panther platform Town Car assembly to St Thomas to consolidate with the CV/MGM assembly.

Wixom and St Thomas both put together a huge number of body on frame road going land yachts...I'll forever miss them.

As far as the employees go. Keep in mind many of them will retire, there was a 400 million dollar severance package negotiated with the CAW. And those willing to relocate, will be given jobs at other plants. Some are going to Louisville for sure. It would suck to have to move and all, but having that good job at the other end makes it worthwhile for many.
