To you HEMI Guys?

Yesterday I bought a 2012 RAM 5.7 HEMI Express Short Bed 2WD. Can the MotorCraft FL-820-S Oil filter Cross reference match up with this engine? I have a bunch of these MotorCraft Filters from my Crown Vic & my Previous F-150?

The 12 Hemi uses a metric thread filter. Purolator number 24651.

According to the Purolator cross reference guide, that does indeed cross-reference to an FL-820 (not sure what the -S means, that doesn't show up in the Purolator Filter Finder).

The threads are different; The correct threads are 22X1.5-6-H MM. The -6-H means the threads have a different pitch. Example would be metric nut on a standard thread bolt, it will kinda tighten but not right. You must use the 22 X 1.5-6-H threaded oil filters.
The FL-820-S crosses to a WIX 1372 which is 22 X 1.5 threads, won't work. The correct WIX filter is 57899 which is the correct 22 X 1.5-6-H threads.

I know people who have used that MTC filter on their HEMI with no issue???

They probably were, and there many issues with oil filters coming loose until the correct info got out. The threads are different. Just say'in.........

In 2008 the hemi went to metric. I bought a pile of filters on sale only to find out they've got a metric thread.
By accident I found out they work on my 4v though,which is good because the receipt plainly states no refunds.

I know I used an 820S on my '09 Hemi Aspen. I haven't tried one on my Ram yet.

Every selection tool I use shows the 820s to be correct for the hemi.
The Ram forum lists it as correct.

Use it. If it is hard to screw on, get out the filter wrench, and crank er down tight.

Back in 2008 I bought two cases of the old Bigger version of the Motorcraft FL-820-S version before they streamlined the metal case to a slightly smaller version of the same filter so maybe I'll just use an original Mopar Filter since she is only at 22K miles & still under factory warranty!

The thread pitch is 1.5mm (thread peak-to-peak distance) ... that's in the size call-out of "22 x 1.5", which means 22mm dia by 1.5mm pitch. I thought the "6H" designator, or other call outs in that field, was the "thread engagement tightness". In other words, it means how much slop is in the fastener when assembled.

Just say'in that filter has been used countless times with no issue. While I get your point you are overlooking the fact that the filter has been successfully used a ton so in THIS case your point is not valid. In other situations it would be.

The MTC FL820S works just fine on 2008+ HEMI engines if that is the filter someone wants to run.

So you're saying that an FL-820 has a different thread than a L 24651? I don't think so. Puorlator doesn't think so.

The Hemi PRIOR TO 08 used an SAE-thread filter. But the engine in this thread is a 2012 which uses a Purolator x24651 (where x=L for standard, PL for PureOne, etc.) and Purolator says this cross-references to an FL-820.

They are the same. In 2008 the hemi went metric,so those threads are now consistent with whatever filters work with the 2v/4v ford modular v8 from at least 99 and newer.

Call WIX tech line, that's who explained it to me.
Its listed as 22 X 1.5-6-H......not 22 X 1.5.
I was just trying to help out......use what you will.
