To oil or not oil OPE foam pre-filters

My mower has a Kohler engine . Pleated paper filter with a foam prefilter . About every two or three mowings I wash it in dishwashing soap and air dry . Give it a spritz of WD40 . Also a thin coat of o-ring grease on the rubber gaskets of the paper filter .

Having gone a couple seasons not oiling my pre filter, I can say that I am sold on NOT oiling. I've tried both ways and I'll not oil any more.

I do as the manual says. If you don't have one, they're available online. Not all foam pre-filters are oiled.

Oil it and squeeze out the excess. Otherwise all you have is a rock catcher.
