Oil filter change interval on Kawasaki FR730V

I figured in Canada they sold the same oil in the same bottles as what the US had, no?

My point was 2 quarts is not equal to 2 liters.

OP or others would have to clarify the packaging/label info, I'm just working off of him referencing liters since the first post.

Hes in Canadia, quarts are liters, ounces are milliliters. Some math and conversions and sorta-kinda-maybes involved.

But yes
With a ph8a size filter I can fit 2.7 litres in the engine instead of 2 litres with the stock size. To get all the oil out I jack up the front right tire and let it drip until the last drop has dripped.
The big filters cost the same as the little filters, so I might as well use the biguns.
Now for another lecture from Lawnman23.

In theory, run the largest filter you can fit in the space. More surface area to filter and more oil capacity to aid in cooling. All good things.

In reality, none of it really matters for the engine. Stock quality/sized filter will filter the oil more than sufficiently for the engine. Oil filter size and oil capacity are determined by the engineers of the engine to keep it running safe and sound for the “life” of the engine, whatever that may be.

As mentioned repeatedly on here in regards to OPE, the most important things are keeping the oil level on the dipstick at FULL and changing it routinely or based on service level. If both of those criteria are met, virtually any small engine will outlast the equipment it’s attached to with nothing more than the literal cheapest filter you can find and 10w-30 conventional oil.

For the oil I would say at least follow manufacturer recommendations or pick that second number, the 30, 40 or 50 weight based on known oil running temperature.
I run 20w-50 in my riding lawn mower because I don't start it during the winter and I have confirmed the oil is hitting 260f and it probably gets even hotter than that.

Liber finer ph3656 is around $5 and what I’ve been using for years on my fr691v. The 3614 filter along with Mobil 1 high mileage 10w30 never sounded right. I ran that combo for about an hour and dumped it all. I’m not sure whether it was the filter or the oil? But a Kawasaki filter and conventional quart fixed the slight thump. This engine has saw light use (an acre a week) and has been maintained annually. This happened about 4 yrs ago.

Interesting, I've run the 3614 filter on many Kawasakis without issue, but never M1 HM 10w30 so hard to say.

I will caution those who plan on running massive oil filters on their small engines. Yes, in theory you can help with cooling (maybe by 2 degrees?) and you do increase capacity, but I've seen the larger filters create more of a potential for issues if they are not protected and stick out quite a ways. I've seen this on a few zero turns where they put a big filter on it, backed into something, and by the time they noticed the filter was punctured the engine seized.

Also, many of these small engines fill the oil filter first before the pressurized oil goes to other parts of the engine. If your filter has a ADBV that doesn't seal quite right (not uncommon) you could be trying to fill that larger oil filter on each cold start which probably isn't good for wear.

Just something to keep in mind. A PH3614 sized filter is usually a bit larger than stock, easier and cheaper to obtain, but not excessive. Anything larger doesn't really add much benefit in my opinion.

Yeah no clue either. It’s not like I ever had a chance to use each separately as I only had 1 qt of HM and only ever bought 1, 3614 filter. I chalked it up to a live and learn moment. Luber finer and pennzoil platinum have been my go to for years with good results. Although I think I’m down to my last couple qts of 10w30 clearance oil. I do have a boatload of conventional from a Costco clearance yrs ago.

This is just my personal opinion, but on OPE engines with oil filters, often they do not have fragile metals or use any type of multi layer rod bearings. So most of the metal will be large particle anyways. I would rest easy changing the oil filter every other oil change instead of each and every oil change.

If you absolutely MUST have the 2.25" size because of room (I believe MOST current Cub Cadets have room for a 3.4" tall filter) , I'm seeing the Briggs and Stratton 492932 filter from Amazon for around $7 in the US. Not sure what they'd charge in Canada. The B&S would be an exact size match for the OEM Kawasaki with respect to threads, as well as inner and outer diameter.

And I'd honestly change my oil & filter seasonally or every 50 hours regardless of what the manual says. Oil & filters are a lot cheaper than engines.

I'm on my third oil change on my FR730v. I put an Amsoil EA53 on it last time. I just changed the oil on it a few months back. The manual says to change the oil filter every other change. I will be cutting the filter open in the fall when I change the oil again. I will probably start putting Super Tech 3614s on, and change oil and filter every year.

Kawasaki manual:
"OilFilterChange •Changetheoil filterevery200hoursofoperation"

Husqvarna manual:
Change oil filter every 100hrs with footnotes below
1 - Change more often when operating under a heavy load or in high ambient temperatures
2 - Service more often when operating in dirty or dusty conditions.

Looking forward to this. Have been wondering what the 53 looks like after us. Have one on the Cub Cadet now myself with Amsoil Premium Protection 10W-40.

I have been cutting the EAs apart on cars for years to monitor media. Since I finally bought a filter cutter, it is easy peasy. I have been running the Amsoil 10w-30 small engine oil for many years. I now run the 10w-40 Amsoil small engine oil in the Kawasaki.
