I have an "06" "V6" Toyota 4Runner that I use to tow my 4,800lb (when loaded) camper and I usually change the oil before I go on a long trip as I do have to work the truck hard on the long hills. I run a full synthetic of a number of different brands and change it around 6 to 7K depending on how hard I work the truck. Right now I have 4K on the oil (Castrol Syntek 5-30) and plan on towing say 1,500 hard miles in the next two weeks so the question is should I dump it out and put some new oil in or am I just wasting $$ ?? By the way I run a rather large trans cooler in case some were wondering.

One of the advantages advertised about syn oil is that it lasts longer than conventional oils. No I wouldn't change it out.

Regardless of what people here say, its going to come down to what makes you sleep better at night.
I would probably change it, but that's just my paranoid side.

After your trip you'd have 5.5k miles on the oil. It should be just fine for this trip, then change it when you return, all else being equal.
