To all recent Honda Owners- At what mileage did you change your factory fill?

I changed the factory fill on my '04 Accord at 3900 miles.
Did a few short (1500mi) changes with Pennzoil
mineral based, then went to M1 5w-30 at 8300mi.
I only have about 8500 mi on it at this point.

2003 Accord V6

Changed at 2000 miles with M1 5W-30, after that used up the last 15 quarts of M1 10W-30 I had before switching back to 5W-30. Doesn't burn a drop of oil w/3000 mile OCI's, now at about 18,000 miles. Supertech 3950 Filters.

I have a 1998 Honda Accord V6 I bought new. First oil change at 3,700 miles. Currently has just under 44,000 miles on it, I barely drive it in the summer when riding season starts. And when I do drive it, it is usually less than 10 miles at a time. Very hard on the engine, as the oil almost never gets up to the proper temp. No consumption at all, ever. That engine is a friggin anvil.

2001 2.3L Accord.....1st change at ~3800 with dealer freebee, then Pennz 5w20 till 12K and switched to Mobil 1 5w30 for the next 90K or so at 6K intervals. Switched back to Pennz 5w20 at about 102K w/~3.5K intervals. Currently at 136K miles and have never had consumption or leaks with any of the above intervals.

Honda still makes a pretty tight engine, but there autotrans are a different story, at least for the 6th Gens.

2000 Civic SiR (B16A2):

- Factory fill dumped at 4800 km (~= 2983 miles);
Used M1 5W30 in the winter & M1 10W30 in the summer between 4800 km to 78000 km on the odometer.
(negligible consumption -> about 100 mL max. every 6000-7000 km depending on frequency of VTEC engagement)

- have just switched to GC for 3000 km now with zero consumption.

I changed the oil in my '03 Acura RSX (K20A3 engine) at 5,000 miles with Pennzoil 5W-20 (the owners manual specs 5W-20). At about 10,000 miles I drained it and filled up with Mobil1 0W-20 which is what I've been using ever since with 5,000 mile drains. I have not experienced any detectable oil consumption and I'm at about 16,650 miles. I bought the car new with about 40 miles on the odo and I've been driving it for two years now. Definitly not an oil burner.

My first filter change was with the Mobil1 M1-110 followed by a Purolator.

It might be interesting to note that my dealership just about had a fit when I told them I didn't want to do the first oil change at 1,000 miles, which is appearantly their routine, but to instead follow the owners manual's instructions regarding leaving in the factory fill for the first 5-10K.

You are wasting a whole lot of money IMO. Changing $5/quart oil every 3,000 miles on a Honda V6 is downright silly.

Changed to Mobil-I for engine and tranny at around 1000 miles on my Accord V6. Never regreted it, lastd me over 526000 miles before I sold it.

'00 Accord V6

Changed the original oil at around 4K miles with the regular 5w-30 that Honda dealer provides. I think the sticker on the windshield recommended, that I keep it till 5K miles though. After that, I was following the severe service OCI listed in the manual. I sold it at 17K miles - no oil-related issues at that time.

2004 S2000 with the 2.2L engine

Drained at 2K miles, replaced with Redline 10w30, used about .5L in the next 2K miles, then nothing after that in the next 3.5K miles. A LOT of VTEC too.

Are you really changing M1 at 3000 mile intervals? When the ignorant Honda engineers recommend 5-20 at 5000 to 10000 mile intervals? I just shake my head in disbelief at the idea of 3000 mile intervals on M1.

With no idea of my driving habits or anything else about how I use my car, you two making blanket statements about how I change my oil just baffles me. Shake your head all you want and change your oil at what intervals you want to. There's no need to drag this thread off topic.

And FWIW 3000 is an average I shoot for, mostly I end up in the 4000 range and have one OCI at 5000. Some people don't have time to change their oil right on the dot.

2002 Acura TL
-1st OCI at 4700km, then car went in storage for the winter.
-very slight consumption with RP5w30.
-No consumtion with RL5w30 and GC 0w30.

Michael, thanks for introducing me to this forum. I just registered today and have not had the time to get familiar with the topics.
For the other's, I own a 2004 Acura TL 6MT and I changed the factory fill at approx 4000miles. Blackstone did the oil analysis, and Michael posted the results. I'm very unhappy with leaving the oil in that long, and did so only at the insistance of the dealer. On my last two cars, I changed the oil at 1000-1500 miles. I'm now running redline 5W-20, and a Mobil1 filter. When I change the oil next time around,I'll post the analysis reports for everyone to see.

2004 TL 6MT, first changed at 4250 miles to MC 5W20 + MLEP (to increase the Moly). Now at 7700 miles and no oil consumption. Will change again around 8500 miles and do a oil analysis. Hope to go to 5000 OCI after that.

2004 CR-V changed at 5,000 miles per owners manual. Moderate oil consumption during the "break-in", but no detectible oil consumption after that. My 10k UOA looked good. Next report at 20k should be even better (since adding a bypass and M1 0W-20).

Changed factory fill on my 4 cly 2003 Accord at 6,800 miles. No oil consumption with about 41,000 miles on it.

I've had excellent UOA

MW,
'03 Civic EX 1.7 vtec. Changed factory fill at 2,500 miles. Changed again at 5,000 miles w/synthetic oil.
