Hello everyone, I will be buying a new set of tires (225/65R17) for a 2018 RAV4 (63k miles on odometer) this week from Walmart.
Located in Central Texas, it’s a commuter for the wife with around 150 miles a week. 50/50 city and highway. Some of the city roads are rough and require some weaving to avoid potholes.
With a budget between $500-$600 including mounting what tires would you recommend? I see the Continental ProContact TX have a $110 gift card. Would they hold up to some of the rough roads in my area?
The Goodyear Reliant are $30 off for Black Friday. I’m concerned about road noise and ride quality with them.
Thank you in advance.

Staying with the 65 series factory size and rims are the best thing you can do for potholes.

I don't have an opinion on the Contis except the brand itself is pretty good, positioned just below Michelin.

I buy a lot of tires from walmart and am very happy.

I put a set of the same size Continental ProContact TX on my Suzuki GV suv about three months ago. The rebate was a big plus. With just ~1K miles now they are good in the rain and fairly quiet. No snow here, not 'till Feb on the NC coast so can't comment on that.

Overall a good choice.

You don't mention location nor weather conditions so assume all-season tires are acceptable to you. If so, then I have a difficult time arguing against your selection. Do they carry the Cooper Endeavor Plus? I would get either of those before the Reliant.

Thank you, I should have clarified I’m in central Texas. Yes, all-season tires are what I have always purchased.

You’ll be happy w either choice. I have had really good experiences w the GY reliant on daily drivers, so I would go w them and save money

The Nokian One in that size is $139 through Walmart right now. 80,000 mile All Season with Aramid sidewalls and pothole protection warranty.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I went with the Continental ProContact TX and we are happy with them so far. The $110 rebate was too tempting to pass up. The manufacturer date on all four was the 24th week of this year so I was happy to see that.
If there’s an issue with them in the future, I’ll post it here. Thanks again.

Thats the tire that came on my 2021 Honda HRV Sport....225/50/18.... I have 68000 on them with 4 32nds left...They have been a good tire...they are only rated at 45000 miles so they are doing great...
