tire rope plug color

My personal opinion is that the rope plugs suck for a long term repair. The Tech rubber type that uses rubber cement and vulcanizes to the tire are unbeatable for a on rim repair. Obviously off rim plug patch is best in any situation for safety. Other than a complete emergency, I think the rope plugs are just not smart for long term repairs - at least on an On Road vehicle tire.

I have some old dark brown ones that are super thick. I've had them since the early 2000's - they are great. Getting low on them.

I always have a plug kit in my vehicle. I also never get the plugs 'fixed'. YMMV

I have had great luck with rope plugs..Some in tires for years.

I have never had a plug fail, for me they are good for full life of tire

I've performed rope plug repairs on at least a half dozen tires over the years. No leaks and all have lasted the life of the tire. I can remember at least one that I placed in a vulnerable area (perhaps a little to close to the shoulder) and it did fine as well.
