I plan to do my first drain and refill of the ATF in my 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe with 40,000 miles.

The capacity is 9 quarts, but I've read that a drain and refill only removes about 5 quarts. So I was planning on doing a second 5-quart refill shortly thereafter.

If I do a drain and refill this weekend, how long should I wait before doing another?

Thanks,
Ryan

You should just remove the cooler line and do a full flush. The Hyundai recommended method for a AT fluid replacement is a complete fluid exchange, not a drain and refill.

Search on the forum for instructions on how to do this.

Ryan, I've got pics floating around from the drain/fills on my '08 I waited about a week before I did the second drain/fill cycle. The factory SP-III was as dark as well used engine oil at 40Kmi on my 2008. 2 drain/fills cleaned it up to pretty much new looking ATF. FWIW, I used Valvoline Maxlife ATF in my Santy.

However long you want. At least a few mile drive down the road. I've been doing a 4 quart drain/fill every other OCI, 15,000 miles. But if you want a full replacement, I'd take a short drive and do it again that day.
