Time For Auto-Rx In My Transmission

I have a 2004 Mercury Marauder with 25,000 miles, I was wondering if it is time for 6 ounces of Auto-Rx.

I am going to be changing the fluid in the pan as well as the trans filter at 30,000 miles. I was thinking of adding 6 ounces of Auto-Rx at 29,000 miles.

I believe there is a magnet in the pan and I did put a Filtermag magnet on the bottom of the pan. I am just wondering if it is too soon for Auto-Rx in the trans or maybe I should wait until something like 60,000 miles.

The transmission is running fine and the car came with a big factory external transmission cooler on it, the only thing I do not like about it is that the trans cooler has a 180 degree thermostat that obviously does not let fluid go through the cooler until it reaches 180 degrees.

As far as trans fluid, I can either use Amsoil ATF or just stick with what is in there, I believe it has Motorcraft Mercon V from the factory.

Transmission fluid is pure detergent. I don't see why you should add any other types of cleaners to it.

i would think at that low a mileage you should be good. i just ran some in my nissan man trans because i have a axle seal leak and 175000 on the trans.

the leak slowed 500mi into the treatment, and stopped by the 1000mi mark. i drained and filled a couple hours ago. good to go now.

This is not so. It has little need for detergent. It's got nothing of merit to cope with compared to motor oils.

Check their website, but they used to call for a flush after using the product in the trans. Not just a drop and fill.
Maybe it's different now.

It's a manual trans. A drain and fill is a flush.

And no, it's not too soon. Since you were planning on flushing anyhow, this will guarantee you'll have to flush.

Did an auto-rx on a manual once, worked out well.

Its not a manual trans, since its has a filter, who said it was a manual??

While I doubt it really needs a cleaning, there is nothing harmed by doing a Auto-Rx cleaning for the last 1000 miles before a ATF fluid change. No rinse or anything else needed. Just be sure you replace all the ATF, not just a drain and refill after the Auto-Rx.

definately want to soften those automatic transmission sludge deposits and clean up those varnished parts... wait a second, there are sludge deposits or varnished spots in an automatic!

I'm using it in my 155K 92 subie legacy AT. Definately will be changing the inside pan filter"screen" and the external canister filter"screeN' after I'm done with it. It was serviced at 65K, so I figured it was time again. Fluid still smelled good, but looked a tad on the dirty side.

Converters get loaded with debris. I can't call it sludge, per se~. If you've ever seen the interior of a worm farm (valve body) the passages and the valves blacken due to fluid fatigue ..too many times going back and forth in the bore ..they stick ..have a wider variance of movement with changing fluid viscosity...etc.. When servicing them (most are reman'd now - the shop doesn't do this stuff anymore, typically) you would remove all the springs and valves and put the aluminum body in (back in the day) GUNK tank ..then use crocus cloth on the individual valves to remove the deposits.
