Thumps up for United States Postal Sevice

USPS is nice in my area. UPS is alright. FedEx? Let's say they couldn't find my address 2 out of 3 times, and 1 out of 3 times they lost my 50lb ceiling fan that is 1'x1'x3'.

How the heck did FedEx lost a box that big? Because, they hire people that couldn't even find jobs at USPS to do my delivery.

My mail man is a great guy. The ladies at the PO I use are gracious and quite helpful. Fellow Americans doing their daily deal to get by in life. We are all in this together. We may as well be pleasant to each other.

Our mailman is so lazy we call him Mr. Haney (of Green Acres fame). If the slightest thing is a inconvienence to him, he wont leave your mail. I order custom roast coffee that is sent priority mail, and the package is a tight fit in my mailbox. But he will cram it in there, instead of putting it on my porch. Sometimes it rips the package apart, losing the seal on the bags. Arrrgh!

About 2 years ago he rammed my mailbox with his van, and tried to stand it back up, thinking I would not notice. Thankfully my neighbor witnessed the act, and we went to see the postmaster and he had to buy me a new mailbox. Maybe thats why he destroys my coffee.

I have had generally average to below average service from USPS. Shipping on some things takes an extraordinarally long time. On the other hand, UPS has always been extremely fast, and packages always arrived in good condition, and good tracking data.

USPS is really good for really cheap. The big advantage they have is that they are really good at making final delivery--they know where the addresses are.

FedEx has a really good package routing system; final delivery is sometimes a little lame. A year ago, they got a shipment to me that had completely lost its shipping label and packing slip. I gave them a description of the item and they found it!

UPS is horrible by comparison. As a package recipient, you have no recourse with them if something goes wrong. Only the sender can initiate lost package traces. Combined with the fact that my local UPS driver occasionally randomizes his delivery locations, that makes for a major headache.

UPS sucks so bad, it's beyond belief. Yes we get stuff from them, but not by OUR choice.

FedEx is sometimes OK, sometimes just plain nasty.

USPS. Fast. Cheap. Reliable. Pretty much the only place we use.

I just ordered pressure washer parts shipped via USPS. South Dakota to Bellingham WA in 2 days! I was impressed.

UPS or Fedex will intentionally delay your packages. Ground package will not be delivered to you for couple of days even if it lands at the destination sorting station. UPS/Fedex makes every effort to make sure that ground package will take longer time than the 2-3 day delivery.

With Amazon free super saver, I am now "expert" on the receiving end of UPS/Fedex packages.

Wow, this cannot be more untrue. I buy alot of stuff from Newegg.com, there is a shipping facility in Seacaucus, NJ. If I order it with rush processing ($2.99) UPS 3-day, before 2 o clock, it will often be here the following evening. At the very most the day after that, but usually the next day.

It's too bad that the Postal Service is consistently INconsistent...

Last month, I had something shipped to me (Alabama to Illinois) via Priority mail.

19 DAYS later, it finally arrived, with all four corners of the box bashed in.

I thought "Priority Mail" actually meant something special?

I am talking about UPS/Fedex ground services, NOT the UPS 3-day Select or faster ones. Even when the stuff arrives in Chelmsford, MA hub late night/early morning, it will not be delivered that day. My town is next to that UPS hub.
