Thumps up for United States Postal Sevice

I sold a laptop battery on eBay last Friday, I print the Priority Mail shipping label from Paypal in the afternoon, the cost for a small package is less than $5. I had the package on my mail box on Saturday, the mailman picked it up at around noon Saturday and it had been delivered to Miami on Monday at around noon.

It is very fast delivery across the nation for such a small fee, much better than either Fedx or UPS, there is no way anyone can send a package for such low cost across the nation in one business day, and the extra is the convenience of not driving to anywhere to drop it off.

Thumps up to USPS for outstanding services.

After the U.S. Post Office claimed my $100 worth of mail-ordered software was delivered to my box on a day when I just happened to actually witness the mail delivery, and saw what was and was not put in, I use them as little as possible for anything of value.

On a side note, have you ever asked the Inspector General to investigate theft? If you do, you will find that your request disappears into a black hole, never to be acknowledged or responded to.

Never had a problem with USPS!They are fast and always on time in every case i have used them.Unlike UPS my packages come undamaged and carefully placed at my door.In fairness Fedex has been good also.

I've received mail that no way in heck I should have ever received. In one case, the sender had my town right, but had the town in New Jersey rather than Indiana and the ZIP Code was 00000. Not only did I actually get the letter, but I think I received it in a reasonable amount of time.

On the other end of the spectrum, I've sent out bills, properly addressed since the biller provided a window envelope with their address and bar-coding on it, and had them come back to me, not as being undeliverable, but as though *I* was the addressee. So I figured that maybe it was due to my return address labels confusing things so I started writing "R.A. on back" in the return address line and then I stuck my return address label on the back of the envelope. And believe it or not, I've gotten some of those back in my mailbox as though I was the addressee.

Flat rate priority mail is great. They'll even deliver the boxes to you. The whole ebay / paypal integration is good too. If I had an internet business, it would be an easy choice.

I have a USPS automated postal center at work which is really handy.

I now work for USPS. If you suspect theft of tampering with the Mail, you need to contact the Postal Inspectors. Those people take their jobs very, very seriously. From what I have seen, no-one in there right mind would ever mess with the mail.

Priority Mail is just that, a Priority. We move it thru the system very quickly. At a bargain price too.

I don't think the others are faster. USPS has tracking, you only have to pay like 80 cents extra for it.

I actually tried to get into the postal inspectors when they were doing some hiring a few years back. Very hard to get into and they did seem like a pretty serious and well equiped group. I would not mess with the mail if I worked for the USPS lol.

They may take their jobs seriously, but that does (or at least did) not include any response to the complainant. Been there done that. (Did it twice, actually).


I don't totally dislike the USPS. I'm actually more upset at the people who use the USPS as an example of government that "doesn't work", but I do have a bee in my bonnet over the theft issue.

I hate the United States Postal Service. The industry has really been hurting over the last fifteen years due to the adavancement of technology and the internet. They are never convienient for me or my family in any shape or form. I just wished they would fold and be taken up 100% by the federal government for effective regualtions and poilicies.

I find the USPS convienent. I can go into my local post office 24 hours a day and weigh and buy postage to ship packages.

Never had any problems with USPS. My Uncle is a letter carrier (still walks his route). People gripe about them, but hey, if I give you 44 cents, can you get a letter from CA to FL in a few days?

The USPS is hurting due to less "bulk" aka junk mail and magazines. The Carrier RTSTORT stuff was their back bone. Now with Email, SPAM, and faxes, a lot of the Junk is no longer.

About package tracking, my Uncle says the USPS gets FedEx or UPS's old software....

If they want to cut costs, they need to stop say, the Saturday delivery, unless paid extra for Sat. Delivery.

USPS works for me. Hate feeling like I'm overpaying for UPS or Fedex because someone else gets B2B or counter rates.

OTOH wife uses Fedex for refrigerated lab samples, huge 50 lb beer coolers that have to be somewhere overnight or the chain of custody is broken. She loves them. Open late at their location by the airport.

USPS used to buy clicker ballpoint pens assembled by the blind. While some could criticize them for "not running like a private business" there is a point IMO where the non-profit side also matters.

If I order something mail order and it doesn't show up, I just reverse the charges on my credit card. Let the seller call the postal inspectors. Insurance or no insurance, not my problem.

USPS Priority Mail (flat rate or not) does have tracking without charge. When I paid for flat rate small package Priority Mail via Paypal, I got the tracking number and that why I knew the package had been delivered yesterday morning at around 11:30 AM local time.

Of all the Federal and states agencies, USPS is the most efficient one in term of low cost and customer services.

As someone said, where else can you send a letter several thousands miles for only 44 cents and it arrives within 2-4 days ?

Maybe I was thinking of delivery confirmation. I thought tracking was a small additional charge. The postal service has lots of services so maybe I'm getting them confused but I know they have tracking.
