Three Consecutive Rotella T UOAs

You wear ear plugs, and the bike is your life. If I loose time, I have to work harder to make it up or never gain it back. Noise and vibration are real issues, and they would appear as wear and power loss.

I can't say that I share your experiences on one bike to what I've experienced on several of yours.

My favorites are Motul and M1 MC. Motul a highly unpopular oil on this site. You will need to pay detailed attention and know your motor well enough to make it a valid observation. Most use the bike as hop on it and go and pay attention more to pipe noise that anything else.

i agree with that!! My Micron pipe is deep and throaty, the D&D and Muzzy are obnoxiously loud.

I've found Rotella 15W40 performs just fine at all rpms and temps in my bikes and my friend's bikes. It's a great "bang for the buck".

After 3,000 miles on Mobil 1 4T synthetic, I've swapped out and gone back to Rotella 15w40 CJ-4.

Yea, I changed out the Mobil 1 long before it's time was up. I've got a severe conflict in my soul about going beyond 3K miles.

So, based on feedback from wileyE, sunruh, G-Man, Fuel Tanker Man and others, I've decided to go back to the conventional CJ-4 Rotella. My bike has 15K miles on it now, and my plan is to go Rotella 15w40 every 3K for another 12K at least, pulling UOAs each step of the way.

No, I didn't do a UOA on the Mobil 1. Too late ... the oil is down at Checkers Auto Supply and their used oil recollection bin.

but but but m1 should last 14 zillion miles and give a uoa that has negative numbers (ie puts metal BACK into the motor) and increases mpg by 40!
and at the same time give you the talent of KR.

It did all that and more:

o My engine temperature was held at a constant 190F, not a degree more or less.
o I found additional tread on my tires
o My Sirius radio started picking up channels from XM!
o My cat stopped coughing up hairballs
o My wife now thinks I'm worth keeping around

Seriously, the M1 was perfectly good oil. And were it not for my obsession about changing out oil at about 3K miles, I'm sure I could have kept going. When I dumped the oil it did not look or smell out of the ordinary.

Note: the appearance of it actually made me pause -- I would have expected it to be darker. Does M1 have fewer detergents than Rotella?

That said, it is interesting that my local Wal-Mart seems to have discontinued stocking Mobil 1 4T in the motorcycle section of the store. Sales must not have been there. And my local Checkers Auto and Auto Zone stores also have very small stocks of the stuff.

I took my bike out for a 50 mile turn on the new Rotella and noticed no difference in acceleration, shifting or ride.

I really wish I could buy an oil temperature probe fitted for a GL1800 dipstick. I looked around but couldn't find one. I'm just curious about what temps my oil really reaches. On yesterday's ride, the outside temp read 111 degrees according to the "Info" button on my dash.

No amount of mesh helps -- hot is hot.

remember that cj-4 rating means it controls soot better. therefore it kind of has to hold it in suspension longer. and possibly has to have cleaned it off of something in the first place. so probably looks nastier on the dump.

you have good common sense about oil. not so much about where you live!!! at least in the summer.

supposed to be a cooling 103 there today.

King Kenny was good, but

Randy Mamola was the man!

I'm pretty happy so far with the M1 in my F4i..seems smoother to me than the Honda GN4 juice that was in there before.....my Walmart just started to carry the M1 oil so I'm glad for that...about a buck cheaper than AZ...so far I like the stuff

Valentino Rossi is the best there has ever been!!!

agree he is one of the top riders. Nicky hayden got lucky when he won the championship in 06, Colin Edwards hasnt really been producing like he would have hoped.

Ben Spies is possibly going to motogp soon. he is going to be a wildcard at this years indy gp

At the risk of sounding crazy, John Deere markets a 15W40 "Plus 50" that still meets SH SJ SL and CI4 Plus. Of course they are not targeting the market to meet the new diesel emission standards and therefore can use previous formulations. I may just try this in my BMW R1200RT until I reach enough miles to make the switch to synthetics.

why would that be crazy?

some of the best oils i've tested are CI4plus rated.

and we all know that the green/yellow dont make oil. so someone else is making it for them. could be just old batch SRT or delo or delvac. and how bad would that be?

I've been skeptical of the whole Rotella-in-bike concept, but this looks outstanding! I want very badly to try it in my CBR, but I just haven't been able to muster up the courage. The idea of spending $10 vs $40 for oil is very encouraging.
The HDEOs are the best oils on the markets ,the HDEOs are run in engines that cost more than 3 or 4 of the most expensive motorcycles on the market with excellent results,

let's see here.

a top of the line JD combine (say STS 9570 with a 30' small grain header) is gonna be a cool $250k

you think they are gonna trust that beast to any oil if it only can run for 4-5 weeks for the entire wheat harvest?

I sure hope that oil has a picture of a combine on it. That's the real measure of the quality of the oil -- motorcycle picture for cycles; car for cars; trucks for trucks; etc.

If the oil doesn't have a picture of the vehicle on the jug, then it's not the right oil.

Everybody knows that. Truly, they do.

Sunruh:

How did the RTS hold up in your WRs? Would you want to repost the UOAs? I remember you had a low-cost favorite, but I don't think it was Rotella was it?
