Tesla driver’s envy. I park far out at work because 1) it’s a new car and 2) the paint is not easy to match. Apparently not needing to mooch off the companies free charging today he parks right next to me and half xxxxx’s it to boot. 🤷‍♂️

In his defense I know I annoy them when I come out and they are busy unplugging their cars and saving the planet while my car is running because I’ve remote started it to get the AC going. 🤣

He probably feels safe out there too, but he should have parked one over to the left if nobody else was out there, lol. He was probably mesmerized by the Eruption Green.

More scale models. A 1948 GMC COE fire tanker truck made by First Gear in 1/34 scale and an Unimog U411 by Wiking in 1/160 (H0). I probably should have cleaned the miniature model because even the tiniest specks of dust make the model look cruddy.

Twin Peaks FDP. ;) The drum says SAND on it.

He parked next to the car he knew would not door ding him. I've used the same strategy.
I never park right next to another car out by itself. They may interpret it as an act of aggression, and may retaliate in some way. I don't pick the urinal next to some dude when there are 10 others to choose from, lol.

This afternoon I drove to the Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve in Sonoma County.

I saw a nice old combi driving north on 101

You can eat your ice cream in the old vault

I'm breaking the rules with a dessert picture! Blueberry-limoncello

Finally, we get to the redwood reserve

Although up to 300 feet tall, redwood trees have small roots. That means they tip over very easily. Amazingly, some are over 2,000 years old.

At 308 feet, the Armstrong tree is the tallest redwood here. 1,400 years old.

That's not clover but redwood sorrel. It's edible but like spinach and rhubarb, it contains oxalic acid. Beware if you do not tolerate oxalic acid. And yes, the other plant is what you think it is. Better stay on the trail.

The Magyar were here. They were probably foraging for mushrooms for AM's favorite dish goulash.

This is the Icicle Tree. Those are burls.

Remember when I said redwood trees fall over on occasion (but only once)? They also tend to catch fire.

The sun is setting behind Mount Tamalpais. Almost back home.

Redwood trees have relatively small roots. They grow in large groves or stands and their roots entangle with each other which supports each other. This allows them have unified strength. A lone tree cannot stand and weather the elements.
This is true of many conifers. I am growing my own mini forest on previously cleared land. It takes a village of trees, babies need the shades and cool for a bit especially last year with 4-5 months of no rain and such. Plus thoughtful planting, etc

EDIT to add: Also with the the sunny slope and drier and warmer temps, pines, incense cedar and doug fir and sometimes grand fir have to grow first in the mostly open and love it much better rather than trying to start with the western red cedars (and sub species), hemlock and other firs

POV: VW Dealer
PXL_20230623_161306765.jpg

Overdue for a refresh is an understatement
This is the VW look for what, 1993?
PXL_20230623_161432871.jpg

Not the swag 🙄

$185 an hour is a bit much 😳
Everyone's out to lunch from 12-1, so I can't pay/pick up my friends car I dropped off 🧍‍♂️
PXL_20230623_164334542.jpg

Service financing, never a good sign at the cashier 😒
PXL_20230623_162125184.jpg

Sat in this nice 40th anniversary GTI in the showroom, which the salesman wasted no seconds in trying to sell me 🙄
PXL_20230623_162042572.jpg

Apparently there's a $2500 "market adjustment" 😒 on everything, I watched 3 people walk in and out of the showroom the second they heard that
Don't blame them one bit
PXL_20230623_163606468.jpg

The service lane and reception area just isn't planned out very well, probably due to age
Maybe I'm just cranky these days, but a trip to the dealership isn't as fun as I remember it 😖
Nobody aims to please, it's just shoulder sagging indifference and expense
I may have issues with my fleet of cars, but I thank God I'm not blindly forced to partake in this sad excuse for retail foreplay
And who TF thought it was a good idea for everyone to take lunch at the same time 🤷‍♂️
The sales staff all fulfil VW fan stereotypes, 90s grunge rock rejects chain smoking outside 🙄

The GTI seats hold my tall and wide posterior quite purposefully, and the ID.4 looks cool
But otherwise there's nothing here that makes me want to run in the door, cash/credit in and and throw down on something 😔

They did cover the oil change as a 20k service, did the recall, NYS inspection, and I got a free car wash voucher, all for $37 OTD, so the service isn't bad
The experience could improve a bit tho

That is an old time VW dealer for sure. Apparently they didn't get the memo there hasn't been ADM on VW's for nearly two years now. My favorite VW dealer NEVER did it even when there were almost no cars.

Well, their roots spread out wide, 30-50 feet (radius) but the roots are very shallow at maybe 5-12 feet so it's a balancing act. A redwood can weigh over 500 tons and it may grow to over 300 feet tall. Often several redwood trees will grow out of one old stump in what's called a cathedral. The trunks of the individual trees merge toward the ground or form a "fairy circle." The burls you can see protruding in one of the pictures I posted are as means of asexual production. The burls contain the genetic code of the redwood. If the tree falls the burl will sprout and produce a clone.

I planted 5 Dawn redwoods about 25 years ago. They are huge, at least 70ft tall. They look just like the native cypress trees here in Illinois. But grow 10x faster. Lose their needles/leaves in the fall and it makes a great mulch.
