I drove to Henry Cowell Redwood State Park in the Santa Cruz Mountains on Tuesday.
These markings are popping up here and there, usually before and sometimes in curves. They make the road appear more narrow and this is supposed to slow people down. Judging by all the skidmarks on Hwy 35/Skyline Blvd that go off into the trees and off hillsides it's maybe not a bad idea. People drive there like they are in the Indy 500. There are deer lurking in the bushes all the time, too.
A slice of an enormous tree trunk greets visitors near the entrance to the park. The tree fell in 1934. My right index finger is pointing at the time of the birth of Jesus while my left thumb is pointing a the time of the arrival of the Pilgrims in Plymouth. My body glitched.
Bambi sighting. I also saw another fawn and the mother of the two of them between the trees.
There are many trees and tree stumps that have been hollowed out by fire.
I love the variety of subtle colors.
The Giant is a 270 ft/83 m tall redwood.
The General Freemont Tree.
The town of Roaring Camp, an old railways station is right next to the park. From here you can take a train to Santa Cruz or into the redwood forest.
Going back north on Skyline Blvd/Hwy 35.
