This is the car that I went to Auburn, IN to see go across the stage and get auctioned. A 1982 Buick Regal Grand National with only 4,000 miles. Bidding stopped at $50,000 and I somehow doubt that it sold.

It was not perfect and it needed some cosmetic work. One example of the type of work that it needed was the gap between air dam and the lower edge of the front fender. It actually looked like someone had tried to glue it to the bottom edge of the front fender. It was nice, but not $50,000+ nice. Some of the interior plastic pieces were in the early stages of crumbling, and were literally turning yellow (see lower half of driver's door panel).

And my rental for the weekend, a 2022 Honda CR-V Hybrid for $45 a day, unlimited miles. Put 600 miles on it, with just $60 in gas.

Here are some of the cars that were auctioned off this weekend at the Auburn / Cord / Duesenberg Festival at Auburn, Indiana. Next year, I'll throw out the possibility of a "meet and greet" there, for anyone here who attends, or those who are already in the area.

I had a great time there. It was not held at the RM Sotheby's facility, as it has been sold. This year it was held on the other side of I-69, at the Worldwide Auctioneers facility. It was a three day auction, as well as an outside car corral and swap meet.

All of the outside events were free, and access to the auction arena and the indoor displays was only $15 a day. I had a room at a very nice Comfort Suites just 10 miles away in Fort Wayne for only $68 a night.

That Packard looks like a 1933 (10th series) V-12 roadster. Quite a car!

1932 "Twin Six" V-12. One of four known to exist today, and yes, it was quite the car.
Interesting. The year was’t clear to me. Those headlights were 1933/34. 1932 had flat headlight lenses. The fenders were 1932. So, it was a 1932. Perhaps late 1932 with those lights. Or perhaps the 1933 lights were retrofitted early in the car’s life.

Regardless, a magnificent car. Thank you for posting it and clarifying the year for me!

They had a thing for free tickets that you could’ve done. If you attend next year and if they still have free tickets, hit me up and I’ll see if I can point you in the right direction.

*** It wasn’t a bad event this year. Just not the same as when it’s across the street. The building it was in actually used to be a museum. One side had war machines. The other had old cars and such. Fonzie’s motorcycle, the A Team van, a car that belonged to Andy Griffith etc.

Supposedly a guy is wanting to turn the original location into a sports complex?

Yes, it wasn't quite the same. I didn't know what to expect... but was willing to drive 5 hours just to see what was there. Considering that they're just getting started at it, I wasn't disappointed at all. It'll take a few years to build the event back up. They did good.

They did run out of parking in the late morning, and was a bit odd... as they had to route people right through the car corral and swap meet areas to get to parking on the northwest corner of the facility. They'll need to address that moving forward... Another issue was that they didn't have paved parking for motorcycles. They were putting motorcycles out in a grass field that was really soft from recent rains, along with everyone else. They had plenty of paved parking that they could have set aside a section of, for motorcycles.

Yes, the story is that the former RM Sotheby's complex is to become a sports field playing complex. Auburn is supposed to get 2 more new motels as well. However, that's not a real issue as there are plenty of rooms in Fort Wayne, just 10-15 miles away.

One local told me that the hope is that the sports field complex plan never makes it off the ground and gets put up for sale, and that Worldwide can buy it and move in.

Here's the listing from the auction house. Since you're a Packard owner, I'm sure that you'll enjoy this... I think you're on the right track with it being a late '32...

Mt. Airy North Carolina 9/4/22 they had a Napa, Carquest and Advance Auto all together. I thought Advance and Carquest were the same thing? People gave me weird looks lol but I’ve never seen a Carquest in person. Didn’t get a picture of Advance. CF Jones is where we ate. The food was ok. Very small portions. The ice cream was delicious.

Another new learning opportunity for me earlier today. There is a published standard on the minimum amount of meat in frozen mac and beef (reference the * in the yellow circle).

I guess mac n beef has something in common with motor oils, required to meet certain minimal standards of additives .

I wondered why my fave $1.49 Banquet had more meatballs!

banquet spaghetti and meatballs.jpg

Just found this in the USDA Food Standards (2005):

SPAGHETTI:
Sauce with meatballs Must contain at least 35 percent cooked meatballs
Sauce with meat Must contain at least 6 percent meat
with meatballs Must contain at least 12 percent meat
with meatballs & sauce Must contain at least 12 percent meat
with meat and sauce Must contain at least 12 percent meat

Supposedly they are putting up a barn-house thing for the sports complex. It’s a 3rd party guy.

Talk about the cart before the horse. Lol
