Beautiful blue Beetle spotted today at Smart View trail and park on the Blue Ridge Parkway in Floyd Virginia. Talked to the owner for about 15 minutes or so. This is a true 1973 Super Beetle. Mine is not unfortunately but I still love it. It makes me want to paint mine this color. Seeing this one makes me want to make time for mine so that’s what I’m going to do. Dad is going to help me. I will have to think on the color I’d like to leave it original as I’m against any modifications of any type on cars but dang this is a sexy looking color. Mine has began to sink in the ground so next weekend I think I’m going to push it out and began work or try too anyway. Goal get it started then go from there I know it needs tires and everything and probably a complete overhaul and floor pan job. Dad reminded me I need to pull the cover off before then and check it for rodents. I’m glad I seen this one today. Really motivates me to do mine. This one has been handed down in this guys family since new. Original color however it’s been redone and the license plate is his dads name. What a nice gentleman for talking to me about it. I was shy to approach him as I’m not one to talk. I might try to find black wheels for mine too with the chrome caps. That looks sweet. My dads 1967 was this color. He gave it to his sister who ran it into the ground and sold it.

Man! When are we gonna have a day where it’s not so darned hot?!
Walk outside and immediately look up to the sky. There’s my answer I guess. 😒

I actually took this picture in July, but I’m trying to find the humor in the situation with this oppressive heat. 😉
Super hot and super humid is no fun. If I gripe about the heat, you know it’s HOT!
Today has been a lot more tolerable, so there’s that.

I have 1971 Wheel Horse I used since new. Is the JD a gas hog?
Pretty much. Adjusted the carb and it isn't quite as rich, but it's about a gallon an hour. So yeah, at a 1.75 gallon tank, I'm pretty much maxed out driving around the corner and mowing 3/4 acre at a slow pace. Single cylinder Kohler's aren't known for fuel efficiency.

The diesel guys rant about the fuel economy of their super GTs.

Got a Wheel Horse catalog when I was a kid and remember it to this day (~1997). They were outstanding machines, every bit the rival of Deere.

Got an hourmeter or estimation of how many hours you've put on it? Original engine/trans? That's quite the accomplishment in garden tractor terms.

I used that tractor everyday as a gocart and entertainment machine. In my youth I mowed the entire neighborhood with it and this was country. Still original with no rebuild. Kohler ball bearing motor.
I stored it away a few years ago but a new battery and some gas and it would be good to go.

I can't imagine the hours. They would be off the hook. I'll have to find a picture of it and post it

That's awesome! My first tractor growing up was a JD 318, I was lucky to find one in good shape recently and re-start my garden tractor hobby. Got this 140 for free with a serious oil leak since then ... turned out to be the bolts holding the bearing plate/crankshaft bearings were very loose and seeping oil. Runs quite good with a few tweaks and new parts.

The single cylinder Kohler is super loud and a beast to be sure. Previous owner rebuilt the engine a few years prior, then passed it along to me when it started leaking oil. Burns a bit of oil but I've been working it hard cleaning up some brush and weeds in the neighborhood.

After the party, coming home, wife’s car making a nasty scraping sound. It’s a GM so it could be one of about five things wrong with it right now. WHEW it’s the rear left brake, and not the power steering pump.

Get home 9 PM and slap new pads on the rear. Have two sets of Akebono ProActs in the basement so sacrifice one.

It isn’t the way I’d want to do it, I’d do pads and rotors, which I also have, But wife needs car all week.

The B6’s are the best thing about the car…

The disappointing thing is outward rear left pad gone and that wear thingy scraping…left inner fairly worn.

Right rears worn evenly and only about 60%…. 😡

SLOW

DOWN

That is not your car. So, quit wailing on it.

Treat it gently, and maybe it won’t blow up like every single other car you’ve ever driven.

If you’re going to drive for a living, you have to stop destroying the cars, or you will always be broke. You will never break the cycle.

Someone had to say something

Thanks

No cars destroyed here, thanks. No "wailing." This is a widely reported conspiracy theory and I mean at this point just say whatever you want I'm okay.
