Thoughts on partial oil change?

I have a fumoto drain valve on my car that + my set of ramps I can already do a full oil change + filter in less than 15 min. My car takes exactly 4 quarts. I buy 5 quarts because they are much cheaper. But hate having them take up space in my hot and humid garage.

I know there is really no added benefit to doing this, but it cant make things worse right? I do 4k change intervals and was thinking drain a quart and 2k mark and add the quart i have left over

What if you gave away that extra quart on marketplace?

But I'm with others in saying, after four changes, the next one is "free". Just add your second/third/fourth quarts into the initial jug with a funnel to consolidate.

Getting the car on the ramps is the biggest part of the job, so you're not saving any time :sneaky:

Instead, use HDEO like Rotella T6 5w30, which is sold by the gallon.

Or, if you want to stick to regular PCMO, wait for Napa's sale, where the single quart bottles aren't much more than the pro-rated 5qt price. Buy 4 quarts.

This is not a worthwhile question. A partial oil change is not a thing among decent people. The “ problem” could be extended to anything.

If you want to do that buy a top extraction unit. You can get the electric motor ones for $14. on Amazon.

My problem here is not new oil but getting rid of old oil.

Partial oil changes are a waste of time and oil.

Save a couple empty oil bottles say from your lawn mower and put that leftover quart into an empty quart bottle. That will occupy little space and that hot humid garage of yours won't hurt that oil at all. Use the oil as make up oil or for your next change.

it’s not worth your time to drain 1 quart and refill with 1 quart.

My daughter had a 2005 Civic so I was in the same situation with 4 quart sump.

You have zero to gain from doing that. How difficult is it to pour 4 quarts in on one oil change, set the jug aside, pour 4 quarts in on the next oil change, pour the remaining quart in the jug, set aside until the forth oil change rinse and repeat.

Your hot and humid garage doesn't affect the oil whatsoever.

i am going to extract oil from the wife's Rogue today and replace the filter on the next full oil change. there's around 4,000 miles on an OEM Nissan filter 15208-65F1B.

Consider yourself lucky, my car takes 6.4 quarts and I’d much prefer to just buy that lone five quart container. Instead I have to dig into my stash for the remainder.

But no, draining a quart and adding a fresh quart isn’t a bad thing…probably would be worthwhile extending the interval past 4,000 miles though. And I wouldn’t crawl under there to drain a quart, I’d buy one of those $20 Amazon, run off your car battery oil pumps/extractors and pull the quart out of the dipstick tube. Takes 1 minute to do.

Why
Keep a few empty qt bottles then pour rest of oil in qt bottles every oil change for storage
