THOUGHTS ON MMO

so i have used mmo a few times now and i can honestly say i have some experience with it. after every interval i inspect my filter and these are my findings.

the first run with mmo showed some black specs in the filter, a pretty good amount. the second time showed a little less and then the run with kreen showed the most loaded filter to date. the last run of mmo showed nothing in the filter.

im using kreen now just to see if anything will come out and i bet i will see results.

my thoughts are that mmo is a very mild cleaner and would fair well in a sludged up engine but is extremely slow and maybe too weak to tackle varnish and heavy carbon deposits. if i had a sludged up engine i would use mmo to get the cleaning started but after i would switch to kreen because it seems to be the most effective.

not to speak ill of MMO but i have no use for it anymore with my current vehicles. but one thing is for sure its completely safe, i have logged about 5k on my truck with kreen in the sump and no ill effects. it was also very effective at eliminating the milky condensation under my oil fill cap this winter. i went from having a great amount to hardly any with mmo in use.


after using it this year i feel when people say just run mmo in the last X miles of an oci are giving bad advice, its so gentile...or weak that i feel you need a couple k to see any benefits or results.


so to you who are contemplating using it because your afraid...DONT BE!

but if your expecting a new engine in one oci you might be disappointed.

i don't use it just for a cleaner. i like it to thin oil in cold weather and to free stuck cranks on my small engines. I also like it in the fuel system as a cleaner and lubricant .
Its not just for breakfast anymore.

I like adding MMO to my gas tank. I feel it improved MPG and probably cleans the fuel system

Mostly useless in the oil unless you want to thin the oil. Might be a reasonable UCL if you believe you need such a thing.

I've been using MMO as an UCL over the last couple thousand miles. Gas mileage has a improved a touch (4oz per 10 gal).

just dont use it in an airplane engine!!! I recall one FAA report where MMO was listed as the cause of engine failure

I like it in the gas to lube the cam driven HPFP, especially with ethanol in the fuel nowadays.

It works fine in the oil to clean, but as electlover stated it cleans slowly. It will tackle varnish, but it takes time. Using it for the last 1000 miles of an oil change will work in keeping an engine clean, or clean up an engine that isn't really that dirty. If an engine has very heavy sludge or varnish adding MMO for a 1000 miles isn't going to do much. MMO also works well as an addition to oil in very cold climates during the winter months. JMO

You can use it in an aircraft. But, unlike incompetent plane owners/mechanics, you need to read how to dose it correctly, and understand that each fuel tank gets its own amount.

You can run MMO the ENTIRE oil interval. There is no need to just use it at the end of your oil run. Run 20% Marvel with 80% oil. If you use less Marvel, it will be less effective. If you don't run it for the whole interval, it will be less effective.

I find that as an FI cleaner or UCL, that I only need about 1/2 the recommended dosage to maximize MPG. 1 ounce per 5 gallons works great for me.

I have a bottle of it from a while back. I'm using 4 ounces in a gas tank until it is gone. No difference for right now..

MMO is the slow cleaner and Kreen is the fast cleaner, just take your pick.

It sure sounds like Kreen and MMO are safe as long as you do not overdose either product.

I believe you need to use MMO or any other oil additive for the entire OCI, who started this last 500 or 1000 miles before your OCI.

That is very true, it all depends on how dirty your engine is, in reality it may take a few OCI's with either MMO or Kreen to get your engine clean. JMO

MMO is the slow cleaner and Kreen is the fast cleaner, just take your pick.

I believe you need to use MMO or any other oil additive for the entire OCI, who started this last 500 or 1000 miles before your OCI.

what is the definition of a dirty engine?,,1/16 inch of sludge, .0001 of an inch of varnish, 1 part per million of bubble bee juice, what is a dirty engine. There is one thing I do know,if I spell oil on my clean work pants, they are dirty, and who hasnt got oil on a t-shirt,,,yep thats dirty, so what is a dirty engine, only the angels know? Lets split hairs.
