Thoughts on a new Tahoe

Including forest roads in northern Idaho as noted in first post?
I used to take my Civic Si down really sketchy forest roads in Oregon and Washington and Idaho. Not muddy, but during camping season. So many comments from people in big trucks, "how'd you get that up here?" "Uh, I used first gear and chose my lines carefully."

It's a want vs. a need in many cases. I had law enforcement check on my car numerous times waterfowl hunting, too. Cause who takes a Civic waterfowl hunting? Had some laughs with deputies.

just because you made it doesn't mean it's a good idea. the chances of breakage or getting stuck are infinitely higher in a civic than a tahoe or pickup. i am not putting the family in that situation.

Just wait till the cylinder deactivation technology dies on you. Costs us $12,000 for a new cam and lifters. This issue is all over the internet slash world. First comes oil drinking then a new motor. Sell it while you still can. Or don't listen to me. Do your own google search on this.

No they say to sell that time bomb off as in today if it was me.

I was told even if you disable it, the lifters are still in the engine on 4 of the 8 cylinders that fail. Dealer can't put regular lifters in the block like the old reliable days. Oh no you need the $800.00 set of lifters alone plus the near $1,000.00 camshaft LOL. Not including labor and gaskets ect....... Run for the hills people.
How are you getting robbed 12k for cam and lifters. That is $600 in parts on a bad day.

Pulling LS/LT heads is not a hard job.

I don't know. I made way smarter choices in my Civic than my old SUV before it. 4LOW causes a 49% drop in IQ. By my unofficial research 🤣

That's why I tell my wife when we get ours, don't touch that knob. Last thing we need is to lose brain cells! The good news is it'll have a 2-speed transfer case so we're good to dinghy tow with our non existent RV.

The time has come, we are looking to purchase one. I watched this video and am in love with the color combo and model. We're looking into ordering to keep the vehicle to only one option HC Deluxe--that first digit in the price does matter, no lie....

I think the achilles heel of it all is only a 10 speaker stereo in 2025, but we'll survive lol

sticking with 22's and 275s...

shhhhhhhh what recall!

You mean 6.2L ? As I posted - my Buddy who brought in his 24 was told his was not effected - he did not ask about where the motor came from - they said his was right at the 24/25 break over … Use 0W20 …

not sure if i posted this already but we did pull the trigger on a base 2025 LS tahoe 4x4, i think it was abt 63k msrp and got it for 58ish.

we went with the 2025 because i really wanted the high speed auto emergency braking. i am really big on safety and being in the air guard part time, i will be away and my wife will be driving the kids a lot.

if it were just me i'd be driving something old with a solid axle and carburetor every day, but for the fam i want something as safe and reliable as possible.

everyone is extremely happy with the new tahoe so i think it was the right call for us. for those of you that want to take your wife and kids into the middle of nowhere in a 30 year old civic or minivan, i look forward to seeing you on the trail 🤣

And I'll help you duct tape all the plastic parts that fall off when the bumper and undercarriage hit the rock you didn't see because you thought you were in an off road vehicle. I always carry duct tape in my 8 year old Corolla that I just took up a forest road yesterday to do some hiking.

Time to add you to ignore … Stay safe …

58 isn't awful. I've been dabbling in minivans, Explorers, Pilots, something with room for everything but trying to stay under 50. Not quite ready to buy yet, unless a great deal new or used pops up. But at the dealer the Subs and Tahoes are ridiculous for price that I saw. $75+ Yeah, no thanks. Especially given some of the common problems I'm reading about in various models. I can't bring myself to pay that much for a car. Did see a couple used 3-rows for much cheaper with 25-35k on them. That'll probably be the route I end up going.

i know my business in the woods and we will be fine. a tahoe is not ideal but it is miles beyond a corolla and anyone who has spent some time in the woods should know that.

We believe we are set in where we're going to order the vehicle. Tahoe HC, $3900 off list, supposedly no hidden fees, $477 doc, tags, sales tax. I dunno if this is a feature of ordering (get rid of add ons). I actually hope it does not take 4 mos, but 2.5 is perfect.

We stopped by a dealership after lunch yesterday. I thought people like to look when closed. Overhead a recording kicked in saying please leave, you are trespassing. I didn't panic but wife was very uncomfortable. If this is how they feel, why not gate the dealership?

Anyway, the Premier they had, had a $3,750 black out package (seems silly and sorry if someone here is thinking, I'd really like to get a Premier with that black out package for $3,750). This is exactly why I don't want one off the lot, all kinds of stuff tacked on, plus my dad always preferred to order and wait.

Of course I wanted to check out the resonators on the fake dual....which we will have only square tips.

did not know Suburbans could have steelies.

Not even PPV wheels ?

Those wheels are only used for transport. My wife's Denali was ordered and it came same way. Changed out at Dealer. Dealer told us they must send them back when I asked if I could have them since they were on truck when they came in.

We went to the dealer yesterday, and placed our order. The sales manager wanted us to drive what was in stock, since we said we haven't driven the 2021+. good sales technique, no pressure, come back with the vehicle I'll be here (although tank was low), and who knows maybe it turns into an impulse buy of what's on the lot. Premier 5.3 with gray interior which looks white in person.

As I was backing in after driving it, there was a gathering, as if maybe they thought I'd clip a post. 360 view made it a breeze.

Apparently the google maps, part of OnStar is free for 8 years. Believe it or not, I could not figure out how to use the rear AC without using the physical rear console. Sales mgr. showed me so I get it, there are tiny icons with a subtle difference to indicate front, rear, etc.

There are quite a lot of familiar GM ways of doing things, but of course 2025 is another level when compared to our last new car (Enclave) from 2011.

We went High Country with one single option, the High Country deluxe package. Supposed to be straightforward. List minus discount. They added another $500 educator discount due to my wife. Add $477 doc fee, sales tax, and tags. Supposedly no additional fees.

The 72.6 cu ft with 3rd row folded is something that "makes" the vehicle for me. That is huge. We are used to the Enclave's 66, and having only one child, almost always drove with 3rd row folded.

The next time we buy a new car, I'll be in a walker (we try to keep our cars 15 years minimum). Sad, but funny as I type today :ROFLMAO:

edit p.s. got curious on what the hitch would look like. The Enclave didn't come with one, so I installed it and the cover had to be permanently off, which was not a big deal. I'd be curious if on these, do folks leave the cover off. imho a bike rack would be a common use....found this video

I leave mine off year round. I also take advantage of spraying off the area from road grime and salt. I was wondering if anyone was gonna make a trim ring for when in use but I haven’t looked that deeply yet.

We leave the cover on except when in use. It is a 10 second job to remove/install.

The Draw Tite that I installed on the Buick was dropped somewhere maybe by FedEx, and the left side of the receiver had the paint scratched off. I touched it up before installation and although the black didn't match, it didn't really rust in 3 years. There was rust where the bike rack slid in and out. I'm thinking if it's spring/summer and we are using a bike rack (taking it on and off, I never just leave it on unless carrying bikes), leaving the plastic cover may not be too bad. We also have one of those Curt baskets for cargo that we will use... :)
