Thoughts on a 2006 Troy-Bilt Generator?

inconsitent? ive only recommended 2 oils 10w30 and sae30, based on climate, except command/valves! I know what i know, like it or not! and you will NOT find 15w40 in an engine manual! Go waste your money on amsoil etc, think of it as an insurance policy! Point is, these engines have ran on 10w30/sae30 for years, and unless you have a TRUE commercial piece, 9x out of 10 the engine is going to outlast the machiene regardless of what oil you use!! definatetly when your asking about low end equipment such as this! now you brought up the kohler engine thats OLD, whats the chance it had some high dollar modern syn oil in it? NONE, yet its still going, im not a know it all, but have yrs upon yrs of experience, and i HATE seeing ppl waste $ on stuff they dont need/high $ oil!

You didn't answer the question...do you use the engine manual recommendations or not??

find me an engine manual from the 60's or today that does not spec either 10w30 or sae30..............!

didnt say you couldnt, its just a waste of money, if you want to use it, by all means do so and waste your money

You said this...with no basis. Which can be interpreted as don't run synthetic. For what reason? Cost? Impending engine doom?? Personal preference??

Not to mention the fact that 10w30 is not recommended above 40*F, while SAE30 is not recommend below 40*F for the above posted reasons...so what am I going to do if the power goes out and I don't have the right oil in for the given temperature??? A synthetic covers the entire temperature range based on the engine manual recommendation.

And to add...Rotella SAE30 is $6.12/quart based on the first place I looked up. The price of two quarts of Mobil 1 10w30 is $8.11/quart based on Amazon. A total of less than $5 difference between OCIs. And I'm only using Mobil 1 as an example, still seeing thoughts on other brands.

It makes more sense to run the synthetic for a few dollars more, which allows me to safely run my equipment anytime of the year without worry.

here lets make a deal......you run youre expensive Full Synthetic whatever grade you want whatever price you want in youre mower, i dont care age engine shape hrs youll use it, and ill run valvoline sae30 white bottle, we'll make sure their both on the full mark, ive got 2+acres to mow, i fertilize, so i mow 2x week minus a drought etc, and we will see who has a consumption problem/if at all, we will never ck the oil nor change it! and might i mention when i buy my Valvoline SAE 30 conventional its on sale $2/qt at a farm store...................you in?

So if not Mobil 1, what other readily available synthetic would be a good choice for this application? I'm not really up on the PCMO synthetics...

and my Valvoline conventional is not rated an hdeo!! ill even run it on sae30 how evermany winter hrs you ask, but the deal is we DONT ck the oil! you in?

do you take a poll on what oil grade to run in youre cummings? or do you know? as for me i know! i might ask if they like edge or pu etc, but i dont have to ask what grade for me etc!

id even buy the oil..........oh he shut up? how could you pass up this deal? unless you know the consumption could kill the motor?

I'm glad you enjoy bashing people who don't bow to your illegible, opinionated, and irrational posts.

And its nice your now trying to pick a fight through PMs...does that give you a feeling of success??

Have a nice day.

i cant spell, but i more than back up my posts, have fun down here in "simpleville" pal.....good day to ya! nice to see you chickened out on my challenge, but i knew you would!! if you know so much, why ask??

To have a discussion on the subject at hand, not a one-side, meaningless argument, and the resultant child-like bashing from you...this is typical of every one of the threads you get involved in...your the only one entitled to an opinion.

Thanks for the spelling correction on the oil.

again, most any oil will work, why not call me out on my challenge? i would buy youre choice of oil for you.....tells me you know something?

Its exactly what your saying:

I have more important things to do that get bashed over something that really doesn't matter...I was asking for opinions on Mobil 5w30 in a Troybilt Generator, and ended up with probably two meaningful responses and a thread that no one will read now. All for something that will see maybe 10 hours of run time per year...it will fail far sooner for reasons other than my oil choice, be it Mobil 5w30 or some other synthetic.

heres what most all ppl dont get, a lawnmower consists of 3 pieces, the mower, an engine, and a transmission, 3 SEPERATE things!!!!!!!!! Kohler never made a mower, nor did cubcadet ever make an engine!! and most manufacturers dont even speak of a transmission! ONLY JOHN DEERE "buys rights" to the engine and transmission, thus JD backs/warrants all components! now as to making a post/what oil for my troybilt whatever is stupid, as tb makes NOTHING requiring an oil.....................infact TB is only a CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP MTD product
