Asking for my boss who just bought one. Right at 100K miles for about $4500. Pretty good shape with some maintenance records.

I've been around the 4.3 Vortec some and knew it to be a very good engine. But that's about all I know about these vehicles. Any thoughts about the good and bad on these things?

Thanks.

Well boss's wife had a Blazer she managed to go through 2 transmissions on. Same SUV basically, hers was just newer. Never an engine problem though even after rolling it over.

They aren't bad little SUVs, though $4500 is pretty steep for an 11 year old model with 100K miles on it.

The 4L60E transmission is decent. Not the best out there, but definitely not the worst. Most that go out prematurely are probably neglected. A well maintained one can definitely last over 150K.

Other problems with the Blazer tend to just be annoyances. I've seen many that have issues with the power features (windows, locks, seats), but nothing that makes the vehicle undrivable.

The condition of the cooling system should be checked ASAP. Plenty of Blazers have ended up with muddy Dexcool. If the coolant has been changed regularly and the cooling system maintained, there probably won't be any issues. If the Dexcool in there is 10 years old, it's going to be straight mud.

BIL, just last week, bought a 2000 Chev Blazer.

He's done the upper and lower balljopints on it, and AFAIK, he now has to do a parking brake cable, and it 'should' pass safety.

Don't know much else about it.....

The 4.3 is rock solid, keep an eye on the intake manifold gaskets, should be the only issue with it.

I've got a 1996 blazer with 210K on it... great vehicle (has a few electrical gremlins but other than that, it's been amazing.)

I also have a 2000 S10 with a 4.3 and the engine is shot (it's at 172K)

Luck of the draw maintenance wise... if it was taken care of and maintained then you should be good.
