This is a Fram Extra Guard PH10600 used in VW/Audi applications. They were formally black and made in Germany, proabbly farmed out by Fram. They are now made in Mexico and painted orange.
I'm pleasantly surprised at the construction. The bypass valve leaf spring feels like it has the same resistance compared to the OEM Mann W719/45 I took apart. I think this filter would work fine for VW/Audi vehicles. The 3rd pic shows the anti drain back valve as this filter sits stud down.

No, this is most definitely a specialty filter that gets made different.

Looks pretty nice btw.

And I'm thinking they are 'still' sub contracted out, just now manufactured in Mexico. Could be the same manufacturer or another, just out of a factory in Mexico. But bottom line, I'm doubtful this filter is made by Fram, but rather a 'made for' with the Fram EG label on it.

If anything other than being sub contracted out, Fram being the purveyors and promoters of fiber endcap construction, would have 'lots of splainin to do'. So bottom line, still a farmed out oil filter manufactured for Fram by an outside contractor.
