THIS is Texas? 6º F

I often travel to Roswell NM, picking up US380 in Denton Texas.
Always stop at McDonalds in Post TX and fill up with gas in Brownfield TX. Just looked up the temps there. Between 15F an 12F. I’ve seen it down to 25F passing through Brownfield, and lots of snow, but not this cold for this long.

Heat pump ain’t worth a $hit. That’s what I have in my Florida location.

I have a heat pump in my location several hundred miles north of Florida, and it works just fine.

However, my house was built with the idea that it does get cold in the winter. So it is well sealed and insulated.

Why would you need to use ceramic heaters to supplement your heat pump?

Usually, they install electric heating coils in the the air handler for that purpose. And they are usually sized to handle the entire heating load of the house in case of a problem with the heat pump.

I've heated a 70's leaky singlewide on electric heat in in Illinois, Electric bill for the month was just north of $450, manageable.

The entire electric/gas bill for my mostly uninsulated swamp shack with gas heat is only $185. That's only an increase of $80 or so per winter month. In my old 1 bedroom apartment it would go up by $200 or so a month. Some of the houses here are pushing an extra $500-$600 a month to heat with electric baseboard heat.

If I didn’t pay all sorts of fees my gas bill in -20F is around $80

Hey, all you Texans. Please list WHERE IN TEXAS you are located.
As you well know, Texas is a BIG place. Weather in Amarillo & Lubbock is a lot different than Houston or Mission/Brownsville.
I won’t even mention ElPaso.
Thats right. I live east of Houston (Baytown, TX) Son is in deep east TX (Nacogdoches), daughter is in Fort Worth, and we all are having different weather.

We are not having much difficulty so far here. Lots of sleet came down coating things with ice, but most of it has melted away. There have been a few snow flakes mixed in but not enough to matter. Starting tomorrow evening things should be getting back to normal. In the 70's next week.

Never saw anything close to 6 degrees.

I am in Katy and we got a nice layer of snow. Lost power this morning at 5:30, but just came back on now at 4. Was 18 this morning and they are saying 10 tomorrow morning. Cranked up the generator this morning to keep refrigerator going and to cook with. Looking forward to 70 this weekend.

(As I explain to my friends in France, “Texas is one fifth LARGER than France.)

My daughter lives in Leander and son live in Round Rock so very chilly compared to where they grew up.

Better snow than ice. It has been raining all day here and the temperature is dropping like a rock. My driveway is somewhat steep and points directly at a lake with nothing to stop me but a tree, so I'm about to move my Explorer to the bottom of the front yard so at least I can get out if the main roads are okay. I can't get all the water off the top of my driveway so it's going to be completely iced over tomorrow. I hate ice.
