Another way to keep warm is to get inside a sleeping bag. If you have those warmers put 1-2 inside and be nice and warm.
You should see the Ca drivers in snow. Heck even a small sprinkle ruins a morning commute! Here in the desert we have plows that the cities use to scrape the sand off the streets. Those work for snow too! Problem is the ice here. All the small bridges get icy then the wrecks close the streets at the bridges.Do they have snow plowing equipment or do you have to wait until the snow melts for clear roads? Up north we have experience driving on ice and snow and we still have many fender-benders. I can't imagine driving there with the majority not having experience on ice and snow.
Yeah … been to many countries in the winter and there will always be a few “bulletproof “ knuckleheads messing things up for others …You should see the Ca drivers in snow. There is a lot of stuff going on right now. ( I still have lots of friends in Texas, so I am interested. ) The Federal State of Emergency was approved, I understand. ABC pointed out its the coldest February in Houston in 122 years. Also, it won’t get above freezing today in Houston. Governor Abbott is asking for folks to conserve energy as the power system is near maximum capacity. Incredible.
Wow. Let us know how it looks at noon!Demand crossed capacity.

They started rotating outages to bring demand below capacity. Wind output is at 4,000MW of 30,000MW or ~13%.
Depends where you live in Texas. Gas furnaces are more common in South Texas North Texas it’s a bit mixed, more electric for sure.So do Texas homes only have electric heat since it'll only come on in an emergency?
Make sure your drains don't ice over, either. Hate to leave a faucet dribbling overnight and flood out your house.
Don't do something stupid with a ventless heater that leaves you dead with CO poisoning, either.
Our electric utility up here is recommending you get rid of your gas stove and go electric. Sheesh.
Mine is a gas furnace but it requires electricity to fire off and operate the blower. No help at all without power. So do Texas homes only have electric heat since it'll only come on in an emergency?
At least you could wire in a generator if you thought it is going to reoccur in the future.Mine is a gas furnace but it requires electricity to fire off and operate the blower. No help at all without power.
That's the new green narritive. Great in theory. Our electric utility up here is recommending you get rid of your gas stove and go electric. Sheesh.
I was mostly wondering about its impact on the electric grid, resistive heating takes a lot.Mine is a gas furnace but it requires electricity to fire off and operate the blower. No help at all without power.
First time for this in 30+ years so I'll pass on the generator. Our normal temps for this time of year are around 60º F (15C). Come August when it's 102º F (39C) I'll look back at these pictures in disbeliefAt least you could wire in a generator if you thought it is going to reoccur in the future.
