Thicker oil civilization is taking over

It's the thick oil that causes them to crack...

That said I would have preferred metal but all OEs today seem to like plastic for weight reduction as if it would really make that much of an impact to fuel economy when the trade off is possibly leaking because it's a serviceable part that isn't durable to a bit of overtightening.

I guess this is why they have the 18ft-lbs torque spec for this plastic piece.

I torque it under 18 Ft lbs, since I'm not sure how residual oil on the threads impact the torque, and if they factored that in or not. No leaks, no issues yet, but imo it is a weak link in the system.

With regard it if it was done right? If it was done right they wouldn't be having issues with it.

Agreed, a solid design it is not.

That's why my minivan has not seen any other place for oil changes than my garage. I don't want the oil techs torquing this thing as if it were a spin on.

Bingo, same here. Which includes the 4 free oil changes I was offered when I bought my Rubicon. I gave them a big thanks, but no thanks.

I don't have a 'middle weight oil range. I draw the line between thick and thin right down the centre of the 30 weights. I consider an A5/B5/C1/C2 *w30 thin and an A3/B3/B4/C3/C4 thick.

I've seen on a hand full of engine time and time again lower wear number with thicker oils. I like a 40 weight in most engines.

My Mothers Suzuki Jimny specifies a 0w20 for "optimum starting and fuel economy" and then goes on to say a 0w30, 5w30, 10w30, 0w40, 5w40, 10w40, 15w40 and 20w50 is perfectly acceptable to use providing the oil meets API SJ OR SL.

My Corvette comes with 4 free Mobil 1 oil changes that I can use in the first two years but I won't let the dealer touch my car at all. I've heard a ton of horror stories on the Corvette Forum from problems people have had with Chevy dealers doing their oil change (the latest one was where someone with a wet sump LT1 had 10qts of oil put into his engine even though it takes 7 quarts-the dry sump cars are the ones that take 10)

Yes, I wonder how that got through?

If something cannot be said in a civil tone, then there is no use in saying it or in posting it somewhere. I'm sure I'll get tagged for saying that.

I did serve my country to preserve the First Amendment, and free speech. I agree, it doesn't necessarily apply here. But you didn't serve anything, you priss! Any you stand by and say nothing until it suits your agenda, go [censored] yourself.

I'm not totally sure what you mean, most of my 'language" you seem most offended by was automatically {censored}. But I think i was responding to a specific comment by CT8 calling Tig1, a very good man and fine gentleman a "pansie". Nothing short of a personal attack and a bully [censored] beating up on a guy he disagrees with. Like kind of beating up on a unoffensive nice guy. I guess you have no problem with that, though...

If you have issue with the "language," take it up with the site owners and mods as actually most of it was actually {censored}. If certain words are left out, so be it. they'll get them next time. I'm guessing you're not offended by the word "pansie" though.... Funny how selectively offended you are, though...

But is Tig1 a "pansie"? not even the right tense FFS...

Funny, no one had ANY issue with that...

You can personally demean long time posters on this site, but don't say naughty words! Really? Grow up!

Not sure either, thought it would be {censored]. Apparently not....

So Tig1 is a "pansy"? Right? OMFG, the fake outrage here is just nauseating...

But I'm not wrong am I? Talking to people like you is like Einstein trying to explain Relatively to a group of Amazonian Indians that have just emerged from the forest for the first time. It's not me. It's you!

Oh *****, you're one of the special people that voted for Brexit, right Joe? More like the idiot that finds himself in a pot in the Amazon!
