Seeing as it is hard to find a 5w30 that is a3/b4 around here as most of our stores don't carry castrol edge a3/b4, I am curious what some of the thicker 5w30 oils are. I believe that 10w30 Catrol Edge is a little on the thicker side for a 30 weight, but was unsure of any others.

Mobil 1 High Mileage is a bit thicker and heavy on zinc ... Think it's a3/b3 in 10w30 ... But a1/b1 in 5w30 ...

M1 HM like already mentioned, and most 10w30 HDEO is thicker, too, such as Rotella T5 10w30. There's also a T6 5w30, but I haven;t seen it on the shelf.

The M1 High Milage oils are thicker and more loaded than the regular M1 ILSAC oils

Look at the regular M1 oils
Regular M1 5W30 has a HTHS of 3.1 and 900 ppm Zinc (SN, GF-5, dexos, A1/B1)
Regular M1 10W30 has a HTHS of 3.0 and 900 ppm Zinc (SN, GF-5, A1/B1)

Now look at the M1 High Mileage oils
M1 HM 5W30 has a HTHS of 3.3 and 1100 ppm Zinc (SL, A1/B1)
M1 HM 10W30 has a HTHS of 3.5 and 1100 ppm Zinc (SL, A3/B3)

Don't let the SL fool you, they are high quality modern oils, they just have too much Zinc & Phos too meet the SN & GF-5 limit. Think of them as M1 performance-Euro-race oils instead of the regular M1 ResourceConserving-ILSAC oils.

I think what you're looking for is M1 0W40

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Supertech Synthetic WPP
5W30 - 3.2 HTHS
10W30 - 3.32 HTHS

The 10W30 is much more shear stable so in practice the 10W30 acts much thicker.

Castrol Edge 10W30 11.3 cSt, 3.2 HTHS
Castrol Edge EP 10W30 11.4 cSt

Seriously just run M1 0W40 for 500 miles then test... It will be a 30.

Autozone has Edge 0W30 if you want an A3 30 that's not an HM.
