These Store "rewards" cards are out of hand. Rant.

"This is discrimination. I am offended!," he said. I use this line as a joke probably a bit too much now.

OP I do feel your pain on the cards though and I am younger than you. I have an app on my phone, but hardly use it. You can't go to any box store without them asking and after declining, they said it'll only take a few minutes. I'm hardly in a hurry, but I will not do this stuff. No way. Kroger and Oreilly are the only ones i really use it at.. both of which have my number. No big deal because they never call and just use it to store info.

All the codger had to do was punch his phone # into the terminal at the cash register.
Some people ate just designed to be drama llamas.

Totally wrong, recommend you read up on online security, Eric Snowden interviews, and Proxies and such.

My biggest gripe is now I have so many cards that I literally have to have a separate ring that I keep on my keys for the Accord to house the cards. So, If I drive the van or the Mustang and plan to use a card, I end up carrying two sets of keys. Giant Eagle once sent me a wallet type thing free in the mail that I keep the full size cards in, and I keep those in the Ranger.

I have tried the phone apps with limited success. Several times, I have had cashiers unable to scan the cards off the phone, so I have more or less given up on those.

However, when I have times like the other day when I bought 35 Gallons of RUG at Kroger for $1.46/gal, or get 30 gallons of RUG at Giant Eagle with no additional charge at least every other month, if not every month, it makes the hassle tolerable.

You want the "Deals," you gotta play the game.

Also Amazon is purchasing Whole Foods, which they will implement some sort of rewards card since whole foods never figured it out.

Not sure how Amazon doesn't outrage you more than Kroger.

Because its easy, it doesn't take any time, they already have it.... I expect that Amazon Tracks our purchases.

So long as i dont get junk mail or Phone calls, That's not my issue, Its the fact that I dont want to be bothered to sign up for one for a store I rarely goto, Then I will forget I even have it and have to do it again.

"Its free". How many times do I hear that from a cashier who's tired of saying it?
Warning! Crackpot theories to follow!!!!
My information has a monetary value for every entity handling it after I give it away..... for free. Shouldn't I benefit on the front end at least? How about a percentage of the selling price every time it's sold. Why do I need to buy stuff to benefit?

Funny thing I'm sick of smart phones and apps... lol
No offence to you of course.
So am I.

I agree I can't stand these cards. If they have to have them at least make 1-2 cards that cover most if not all cards.

I get the idea behind them you save a very insignificant amount and it's suppose to keep you at that store. I hate them tho I just don't like nor want them.

Last year I had someone who ask me if I had one. Told them no, they asked if I would be interested in it. Told them nah, they then started preaching about the card and I said I wouldn't use it. They ended up scanning the card anyways and telling me to call the number on the back to set it up.

It really kinda annoyed me I know employers push workers to get sign ups but I'm not interested. I don't care if I save $0.03 off a fill up every $500 I spend at the store..

Just one of those things that rub me wrong I suppose.

Can't "stand these cards" but many will drive all over town to buy oil at .50 cents a quart. This thread is laughable.......

No, I find your comments highly irrelevant. Did you post in this thread to contribute anything? From what I've seen from you in the past you mainly just seem to ridicule others.

Quoting one of your past posts "you can't just make generalizations."

If you don't like my comments I hear there is a "block function" that works pretty good!

I do both

This is stupid, page 4 and nobody mentions Shell Fuel rewards, the most successful gas reward program, on a oil forum.......

I love it when they start asking for my information. It's like a game for me to see how many circles I can send the manager into.

Why do you need my phone number? Why my address? What does that have to do with buying a gallon of milk?

I always smile when they say "we aren't going to do anything with your information sir". Then WHY do you need it? Just collecting information for no reason? Sounds legit to me.

Why don't they just lower their prices to what it would cost using the card, so you don't have to use the card?

I just give bogus information. If they ask for a phone number, they get Dominos.

Radio Shack did this back in the day (1980s)

I kept the address and phone number of another Radio Shack memorized, so the flyers just went there

Its funny to me that you think that Amazon is somehow more respectful with your personal data than your grocery store, or your autoparts store.
You made a purchase, on the internet, using a credit card, and you had it delivered to a verifiable US address.
Your data is on so many different servers, and lists, and you have no clue how any of the data is being used.

There's not much you can do, as long as you live in the US, period.
You're data already exists, and you use a computer.

Chances are, I have your data, along with nearly everyone who has replied to this thread.
It makes me a good living, and I thank all of you for contributing to the data pools that my company creates and uses to employ myself, and all of my coworkers.

BC.
