I was kind of interested in buying some Motul 8100 E-tech 0W40 which I found locally for a reasonable price in a high end Mercedes/Audi/BMW/Porsche service shop. The shop owner said that he had bought 10 drums of this oil for a great price when he had heard that Motul was discontinuing this particular grade a couple of years ago. I asked for a sample from one of his opened bulk drums, sample came back showing 2% water. It wasn't a scam as the owner had never done VOA's/UOA's but haha, I won't be putting that c r a p in the engine either.

Thanks BITOG.

That sux. fwiw I called them today and confirmed that only the 300V series is maj. ester based. Other grades are PAO/Grp III. Good oil but overpriced.

I agree Buster, Motul makes various qualities of oils as often stated in their online sales information. Who did you speak to in the Motul group who passed along the info that only 300V is 'maj. ester based'. :)

Interestingly I've seen that the Motul 300V series racing oils only have about a 20% ester based component, not sure about the percentages in the other 'ester synthetic based' Motul oils.

Not sure if this is what you wanted clarified but here is the VOA of a bulk drum oil, in this case Motul being sold by a mechanic to his BMW, Mercedes and Audi clients. I was interested in purchasing a few gallons of the oil as the Motul 0W40 has always had a good following but I think I'll take a pass on this one.

Haha, beware bulk oil buyers.

I was also surprised at the Pb content.

would the water burn off once you use the oil, or is it retained in the oil causing corrosion of parts?
I think my local shop seels so little M1 that there must be some fallout / settlement and aging of the contents...

IF this is correct, thanks for the info (well, thanks anyway, but even more so if it IS correct) as I've been curious about this for the longest time.
Now if I only could get the same info (correctly and reliably) from Red Line, instead of the pat, standard issue 'proprietary info' reflexive response, it would make my day!!
