The Truth about 0w20 vs 5w30 YouTube

Those are exceptions. A hand full of oils that may do well at over 5,000 miles.

ESP and Edge are new oil that were not available several years ago. And Advanced Clean came up a couple of months ago.
Pretty much any of the major synthetics can do 6-10k unless it’s a short tripped fuel diluting situation. You’re acting as if these oils are only good for 3-5k period and that’s not the case. The ones I mentioned in the previous post could even go 10-15k in ideal conditions.

I disagree. Under the right conditions there are a few 20 grade oils sold at Walmart that can go way more than 3-5k. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum, Mobil 1 ESP, Extended Performance and likely the new Advanced Clean too. Castrol Edge EP can handle longer intervals too. In a port injected highway driven car like my Civic, it would be a total waste of money to change the oil every 3-5k. I prefer 9-10k (I drive 25k a year)
But do you run any of those in your Civic for 10K miles?

Yes, I’ve been doing 9-10k runs with many different OTC oils in my Civic in the 5 years I’ve owned it. I’m currently running ESP 0w-20 in it
But that is after the treatment with Valvoline Restore and Protect which cleaned all the gunk from previous runs with 0W-20 oils, right?

While I think HPL is a waste of money for most folks but, there’s no fine line between pennzoil and ppcmo at startup close to, or below zero. I dumped the pennzoil in favor of Valvoline because my engine sounded like it was being tortured. Granted, the pennzoil wasn’t anything more than their regular synthetic, but still was 0w20. Valvoline advanced is much better. I ran HPS 5w20 last winter and no startup rattle.

I’m not the original owner of this car. Most of the piston ring carbon came from the first 5 years with the original owner, who had oil changes done at the Honda dealership with their inferior oil.
