Id be more worried about your battery than oil. Oil wont be a problem. Its -22 celsius on avg and ive started up north at -30 or so and it took awhile to crank but thats it.
It will be -1F in the morning here. I am so glad I changed oil in the vibe. That oil change was 13 months old and 9k miles.
The vibe is my wife car. I hate to get called that her car won't turn over. Coldest I have seen that I remember in TN
22 in Cookeville tn,,,5w30, easy start, but at -31 degrees , we are not even in the running here.....I'll take 22 , you all can have -31. Thats a cold seat.
PU 5w30 is one of the best flowing 5w30s on the market, just not sure how the mix of 5w40 affects this.
Under the D5293 Viscosity @-30° C mPa test which has a 6600 max limits most of your good synthetic 5w30s are around 4,000 while the conventionals tend to hover around the 6,000 mark, showing that a 5w30 synthetic is going to on average flower much better than a conventional 5w30 at - 30C.
Of course everything varies these are just some common reference points. Here's the comparison of 5w30s with viscosity comparison.

As much as I love messing around like that, I'd park the car in the heated garage and then just put a couple quarts of oil out front. Before leaving in the morning go play with the bottles and look at how much slower they're moving.
Battery is 5 years old. Belts are 2 years old.
Last year I had some cold starts at -10F on straight PU 5w30, and it was easy. But the power steering pump made loud cavitation noises on RP fluid. This year I have Redline fluid in it.
Sorry gang, it only got down to -6F, so I guess it's a case of coldus interruptus. I must have read the weather report wrong. This morning, it's saying that Friday AM is supposed to be -22F, so I'll park it outside again tonight.
At -6, it was an easy start. Less than a second of cranking, and it fired right up.

might be time to look into where its going before you track that poor old Chevrolet again...
It's carrying oil through the PCV system into the intake. Whenever I pull the throttle body air intake, there is oil sitting where the PCV hose connects. I'm thinking high blowby and maybe the rings are worn out. At 225k miles, and ~180 hours of track use since new, the engine doesn't owe me anything. It did really well on oil consumption up to 193k, but has been trending up since then.

I enjoyed watching those while sheltering indoors from today's heat. They all start really well, even the TDI. What oil grades are you using?
Does the 2015 have a stop-start feature? My Polo does and I've noticed it's the fastest starting fuel-injected car every I've owned, starts even faster than my last carbureted car in 1980.
