This is why I run synthetic in my Forester turbo, doubling the manufacturers OCI, and run conventional in my two n/a Subaru's for about 6k.

Although, fifty bucks says the first PU UOA will have something like 3k miles on the oil.

Here's a little test that I do for my neighbours who question synthetic. I ask them to have a look at their lawn mower oil. It's probably CTC SAE 30, maybe a bottle from Sears, and the used looks as black as oil can get after mowing four times.

I offer to change it for them for free. I put in the synthetic and ask them throughout the summer how the oil looks after running in that hot air-cooled motor. End of summer it looks like the day that I put it in.

If it works that good in a $300 lawn mower... what do you want to put in that $30,000 car you're driving?

The benefits of synthetic really show up in an air-cooled Briggs and Stratton lawn mower.

I agree with you. The example I gave was when conventional is greatly abused.

If they want to pay much more for synthetic oil and then use short OCIs -- why bother trying to convince them? They're stimulating the economy at the least.

I don't think my question was typical. I can be in OK shape, or great shape.
Will I live as long? No way to know, but it sure seems logical that being in great shape would help me live longer.
