The one good thing about an oil burner is...

That's quite a lot of oil, but I don't know how many miles you're driving a day. I would check PCV and hose, or start Valvoline Restore and Protect to clean it up, if you plan on keeping it. Piston soak won't hurt either. I'd be more concerned of plugging up the CATS and fouling 02 sensors.

New OEM pcv and no sensor codes. I shouldn't say this but it has not thrown a code in months . I can't seem to find Valvoline Restore and Protect in my area. I have not been out to look in a month or so though .

I don't have to worry about sludge plugging up a lifter! The trooper uses about 1qt of 10w30 a week so it's always getting some fresh oil added.

The engine sounds very good for 240000 miles. No ticks and no knocks, Just drinks oil.

I planned on a B12 ring soak and 20w 50 but Winter is coming.
What does your catalytic converter say about that?

Hehe, gotta love the US, as CKN says, water freezes at 50F in some parts of Cali.

I know you say it's using a quart per week, but... that's not really a rate of usage. Sure, it's volume per time, but most would be more interested in volume per mile. I mean, if you were putting 1-2,000 miles per week onto this, many would shrug this off--but if you were putting say 100 miles on per week, we'd condemn it.

20w-50 is a-ok down below 28f. So are shorts and a light windbreaker... unless you're a temperature disabled California resident. :)

For folks mentioning PCV valves and such, ALL Isuzu's I've ever come in contact with burned oil to some degree or another. It's normal. A quart a week is a bit more than typical, but not unusual.

I used the cheapest 15w-40 I could find year round in mine. Usually Costco Delo at the time.

Delvac 1300 15w-40 is only around 800 phosphorus, on par with most SP oils. With rebate, a $50 bucket will last you 20 weeks.

What oil do you run?
The fastest way to increase your oil consumption is to go to higher viscosity oils.

The only good thing might be that you run it on cheap oil.
However, I would give it the try with Valvoline Restore and Protect and Yamalube Ring Free. Those are pricey, but I'll still do it for the sake of the science. :)

I'm not picky. As long as it meets specs I'm not afraid to use it . Currantly running tractor supply traveler oil.

That is not always the case when using a higher viscosity oil.
