The Oil-Chemists' Handbook - 1900 hardback

I was going through a used bookstore in downtown Wooster, OH and came across the book, "The Oil-Chemists' Handbook" by Erastus Hopkins. Thought I found a gem of an outdated oil book, but found that google already digitized it.

For those interested, it has some interesting tables:

Book has some wear on the corners and the pages have yellowed a bit, but has all pages and spine is in good shape. Thought some of you oil/wax nuts may enjoy. I can't see how the composition of horse fat would change after 111 years later.

Good stuff. Pretty much pre-petrochemical, all kinds of good info on hemp and sperm oils though.

That's neat, I love to read about old technology.

What's interesting is that we are redicovering the uses of vegetable oils in lubricants.

I love the way that old books are written and convey their teaching.

Very very different to today's "texts".
