I discovered my broadband cable internet came in two tiers. I had somehow been bumped to the fast, expensive tier. Bumped myself back down.

I do not and never have paid for cable TV. Did splurge on a netflix $5 plan for the wife for her birthday. Saves gas going to the video store. Can get many cable shows on DVD if we wanted. "Reno 911!" and "Sex and the City" have made it to free over the air broadcast syndication, as have "The Shield", "south park" etc. Sure they edit the shows but they still follow the same basic plot.

Occasionally just eat 33 cent pork n beans from a can at work, I don't even heat them up.

ROFL at the homemade beer, that is ingenious. I just buy my beer in New Hampshire, I get the cheap swill... PBR, Miller high life... A couple suitcases last me half a year. Sure a sam adams tastes better but it's 3x the price when I open it, and that is forefront on my mind.

I'm considering bringing my rechargeable batteries to work to charge them up there. I save my office energy by shutting off lights and computer monitors. Embezzle some of that back in the winter by plugging in my engine block heater.

$100 oakleys? I paid $75 for prescription sunglasses in that cool aviator style. If I weren't myopic I'm sure i'd be in dollar store sunglasses. Vanity ain't cheap.

DAD DAD (eljefino) You've come BACK TO LIFE!!!! You sure your NOT my father??? Wow WEEEEEEE that's TIGHT. Next thing you know we'll all be saving our farts for the gas tank.....

I shop at Aldi's grocery store.

I buy most everything on the internet (no tax, much cheaper).

I drive a paid off saturn ion.

I research the heck out of everything before I spend a cent.

I have geico for car insurance.

I buy gas on an indian reservation thats near my brothers house.

I keep the heat at 60 degrees in the winter.

For almost a year I had rabbit ears on my television.

I have a sprint sero telephone as my cell phone, and I con'ed them into adding my corporate discount on top of that. My cell phone bill is 22 bucks per month including tax.

When I signed the contract they gave me a 250 dollar phone for free, and gave me a 100 dollar rebate on the free phone. I sold the phone on ebay for 150, took their 100 dollar rebate, and paid 40 dollars on ebay for a regular basic cell phone.

So basically I got almost 10 months of cell phone service for free on a 2 year contract.

I bought a 15 dollar usb phone, and use skype to call all my friends, at the cost of 19 dollars for the whole year.

Finally, I run thousands of dollars of equipment for my business through my rewards credit card, and give everyone in my family gift cards that I got for free from the rewards program.

Hmm...I bought a Neon new, & am still driving it over 10 yrs and 206,000 miles later. I tend to check things out before buying anything over $20 or so, & really don't buy much in the way of extras.

Re: Black Friday. The last time I got up early to buy something the day after Thanksgiving was 8 yrs ago- hadda get a Winnie-the Pooh playset for my new niece! Haven't done it since- but this Friday I'm gonna do it again. My brother & his family will be here all weekend, & the triplets(!!

) are about 4 1/2 yrs old. Ace Hardware is gonna have the good ol' reliable Radio Flyer red wagon on sale for 1/2 price, and there's a store about 3 miles from the house! *That* oughta help keep 'em outside(and help maintain Uncle Stu's sanity too)!

My one luxury is my two-car garage. The wife's side has an electric garage door opener. Have a 60 watt incandescent bulb that comes on for 4 minutes when the door is opened or someone walks across the electric eye by the door that's 6 inches off the concrete. I tiptoe across this beam like it's "Mission impossible."

I won't buy batteries at big lots because I get them cheaper at dollar tree. I do have my limits though and won't get kid stuff at either of these chinese junk stores.

I keep half a dozen chickens around for the eggs. If the office has a big donut party or whatever I take the stale leftovers home to the birds. I drink the office coffee and tap water. Never touch the vending machine. Have a huge stash of 75% off halloween candy if I ever need a sugar rush.

Talk about frugal......in the winter, after a bath, my dad leaves the water sit in the tub until it reaches room temperature so he can capture the heat instead of sending it down the drain!

We do the same thing. It's not that frugal, actually, it's just a good idea.

I've paid for one movie and watched two instead (spider man 2 and shrek 2 for example) or lord of the rings and harry potter. done it a couple of times. haven't done it in a few years since I discovered free library new release movies and I burn/copy those and give to my parents to watch.

As to the regaining the heat from the bath, there was an article in a magazine a little while ago about running the cold copper pipe to the shower along the shower drain line.

The cold pipe picked up nearly all the heat from the drainate in its 6' travel, resulting in the hot tap needing to be only on half way (or thereabouts).

Pablo, and others,

Reading these threads is very therapeutic. Whenever I come to BITOG, I realize that my OCD is VERY mild.

Thanks, and everyone have a great Thanksgiving!

I love a good deal like anyone else. My fiance is a great bargain shopper. But we don't lose sleep over these things. Just stay balanced and don't get consumed in too much debt. That is my philosophy. .02

I have one of those wheeled detatchable dishwashers that pukes its water into the sink. I use the sudsy water for pre-rinse of the big caked on pans etc. Also rinse out the coffee thermos carafe and fill it with hot sudsy dishwater, then leave it there.

But I don't do the shower thing... mrseljefino makes me clean the hair from the drain, can't imagine the beating I'd get for ring-around-the-tub. :D

El....are you for real? You sir, are the King of Tightness, hands down. Think you should change your screen name to
"El Tightness"
