LOL! That's the only reason I'd go. Watching people fight over material B.S. and put themselves in debt is entertainment.

I rarely shop and purchase things, PERIOD. Same clothes for the last 7 or 8 years (new drawars here and there and socks though), same TV for the last 5 years, same computer, same car, same EVERYTHING. Bought a foreclosed house for mega cheap.

The only thing I really buy is food and gas, insurance, water, electricity and natural gas for the furnace, although I have a ton of firewood that is OH SO enjoyable to heat the house with.

Well, yea, I do splurge on fishing tackle, but come on, it's FISHING! I do eat out a few times a week as well.

I also drink cheap beer; been on an Ice House kick lately. Tasty stuff! High alcohol content. 30 pack of bottles for 14 bucks.

LOL..same here! I don't like going out on black friday, especially in NJ where we have 1,082 people per sq mile. It will drive me out of my mind.

I buy my wetsuits online when I can get ~60% off - just have to hope they fit good.

If I eat "out" its off a dollar menu (when alone at least)

My oil is free after rebate(s) or
I shop at Ross (recently purchased a $70 7diamonds shirt for $12

)

I went to Vegas last weekend and won money

(checked fatwallet.com first and scored 2for1 Spamalot tix and 20% off the hotel my brother had booked)

(my friends call me Jewish, my last name is Italian)

Ive got pieces of driftwood in the renovated frame of my house. My wife buys only used furniture and china. My 528e has 347 k miles on it and hasnt seen a professional mechanic in 8 yrs. I priced the insulated pull down attic staircase cover. 250$ for a pre-made unit rated R30 at Lowes. Then I made one using 3 R30 2'x4'batts, some scrap wood and a piece of 6 mill poly. All left overs from the addition. Ive re stitched my boat shoes several times. I replaced the handle on the spousal units popcorn kettle with a handle from another pot. My mowers and snow blowers are dump finds. My sit down mower is a 77 IH Cadet 80. It has a wicker barstool as a seat. With mebbe only 2 or 3 exceptions, every car Ive owned has a parts car to keep it going. I think I have only ever sold 2 cars that could be driven of my property. Its a genetic curse. I come from a long line of swamp yankees. Fix it, make do, or go without.

I brew my own beer. It's great beer, equal to many $6-$7 six packs.

I can make a 4.5 to 5 gallon batch of beer for 25-30 bucks. That's 8 six packs worth. $52 worth of beer for 25-30 bucks. Plus I don't have to worry about which one's on sale. Plus I save gas going to get it several times.

Sure, there's an up front cost for tools & supplies, but that's amortized over a lifetime of good beer.

I think Groucho is my new hero. Or he would be, if I had a hero.

As for myself, I don't like cheap stuff, but I don't have to have a lot of stuff. If I want something, I might buy it, or I might get over it. I don't actually have very many material things, but what I have is what I like.
One of the few things I have in common with my absent wife is that I'd rather wait for the exact "whatever" I want, than settle for something cheaper sooner. But often during the waiting, I lose interest altogether.
I do as much work on my Jeep as I have the knowledge and/or patience to do, or find someone willing to show me how.

Sak's Outlet
Neiman Marcus Outlet
Side door at the movie theatre
Tire Pile diving
Firewood
4-stripe sneakers (tearing one stripe off when I get home)
Wildflowers
No movie channels
Few coffees out on the road (diy freefills)
No sodas on the road, water

Mark,
there's a good point there.

If you absolutley must have something, and have it now, it's best to hold off a few weeks and find that you never needed it anyway.

Tools are oft an exception to the rule.

I'm a proud member being a BITOG cheapskate! I eat off the dollar menu at mcdonalds, my wife and I share a large drink. Both of us to eat there costs about $5.45 Especially at taco bell which is in the $5 range, we find the ones with the fill it yourself cups. That's why I drink diet drinks. We probably eat out once every other week. I never buy myself clothes, I just request clothes for xmas and birthday. So I never have to pay for it myself. I don't donate or throw old clothes out. I wear them until they get holes. not a tiny hole, but a massive hole when my wife tells me I have to toss it. I buy everything on sale that I must have. I'm still watching a 21 inch 12 year old tv. HDTV? Flat screen plasma? 650 SUV payments? 350 gas bills $2000 mortgage bill? 300 electric bill? what's that? LOL!! I use VCR tapes to recort tv shows. I get my movies and cds free at the library. I have basic cable, no movie channels. I only have one dvd player and it was free from my wife's work. I haven't bought a computer in 8 years. I charge everything on my GM card, the old rebate rules, and pay the balance off in full. I used $2200+ on my vibe that I paid for invoice. I drive a wrecked 96 sunfire paid for car. I use my bike and work gym for exercise. get textbooks for my wife using comparison shop websites for best used book deals. Buy the cheapest gas I can find without buying the no name brands. Use coupons at grocery store which is usually walmart. Or we go to Aldi to get a better deal on weekly advertised items. Combine all my trips in one day so I don't waste gasoline. My wife and I have prepaid cell phones as emergencies only, no monthly plans. I have over 125 qts of oil that I bought on clearance or free after rebate. As often these free after rebates keep popping up, I'll never pay for oil again. I already told my wife that when we have kids they are going to public school and getting full scholarships. they will drive a hand me down beater from me. LOL The only thing I splurge on is comcast broadband internet. My wife made me, would not take a no and hated dial up. I'm still trying to back her down to dial up again. I'm paying $49.99 a month for broadband. I keep the thermostat on 70 degrees in the winter at all times no matter what and 78 in the summer. I turn off every light in the house when no one is in the room. I switched to the energy saving long life light bulbs throughout the entire place.
I can't think of anymore right now. I'm sure my wife would know. LOL

Got a free NIV bible because the spine was coming unglued, reglued it and it's perfect.

Always rent DVD's and books at the library.

Save 20% of my money, pre-tax. Use the FSP to the hilt.

Don't drive pointlessly, plan my trips.

Trim my own nose hair.

Buy the huge pack of bat soap and save my soap bits and press them into a new bar.

Only water the lawn when 100% necessary.

Clean the gutters, etc myself.

Don’t have others do car work for me. Pretty much always wrong and expensive to have others service cars.

Try to get full usage out of my motor oil.

Have lunch from samples at PCC.

Bought a used Sony 32” TV from Craig’s list for $50 and the guy gave me his very nice hardly used VHS player for free.

Go on hikes in parks and hills a lot. Beats TV.

I never ever water my lawn!!!

Trimming my own nose hair has saved me thousands in a little over a year and a half!!!
